The distinctive spots resemble those of a rattlesnake and have ruffled edges. The dark green foliage has reddish purple undersides that cast shadows as the leaves sway in the directions the sun is moving.

If you are growing it outdoors, a spot with partial shade and partial sun is optimal for the best growing environment. This tropical plant will tolerate low light conditions, but the leaves will fade into a light green color.
