PLANTING

Phaseolus coccineus

Germination: 7-14 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 60-75ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep

Starting Indoors: 2-3 weeks before the last frost. Sow 1-2 seeds per cell/pot.  Provide 70-80ºF soil temperature. Sowing into individual biodegradable peat/cow pots reduces root damage when transplanting. Transplant after the last frost, 8-12" apart.

Sowing Outdoors: After the last frost with soil temperatures above 55-60ºF. Sow 4-6” apart, thin to 8-12". Planting in soil under 60ºF results in poor germination.

How much does a packet plant: 8-10 foot single row

Harvest: Young tender snap beans until they become fibrous; steamed, baked, boiled, or sautéed. Young seeds can be shelled and cooked like lima beans. Dried beans take a long time to cook and can be soaked 6-8 hours before cooking. Add the edible flowers to salads

Tips: Provide support with a trellis, fence, or poles. Keep beans harvested to encourage more flowers. Grow in light, well-drained soil, and provide adequate, even moisture, especially at flowering time. Dry soil can result in low yields and fibrous pods. Do not over-fertilize with nitrogen which results in a surplus of foliage and low, delayed pod growth. Adding inoculant at planting time aids in a larger harvest and more robust plants.

When in a pinch, even Monaco couldn’t tell the difference.
Size: XX-Large, Color: Navy
Here’s the revised review with the updated final paragraph: --- **When in a pinch, even Monaco couldn’t tell the difference** There I was, stranded in the Swiss Alps, of all places, when an urgent call came through—a last-minute invite to a charity gala in Monaco. You can imagine my predicament. No tuxedo, no time to fly back to Dutchess County to retrieve the one I had custom-tailored in Sardinia by Fabrizio, the island’s finest (and only) tailor. Fabrizio’s tuxedo, you see, wasn’t just any suit. I had it made after a rather *unique* incident involving a chess tournament, a peculiar art heist, and the world’s finest pecorino cheese. But I digress. With no time to return to Dutchess County—or even Sardinia—there I was, frantically searching for something that wouldn’t make me look like an underdressed disaster among the crème de la crème. Amazon to the rescue. I stumbled upon this navy blue tuxedo with a black shawl collar and, in a state of mild desperation, ordered it around midnight. It arrived before I even woke up the next morning. Amazon’s overnight delivery, an absolute lifesaver. I put it on, and, to my surprise, the fit was near perfection—almost as if Fabrizio himself had secretly slipped his measurements to the manufacturer. The deep navy color was striking, and the black shawl collar gave just the right amount of contrast. It looked like a tuxedo far more expensive than the one I’d ordered in a slight state of panic. At the event, the tuxedo didn’t just blend in—it stood out. More than a few people took notice, including a former diplomat who, with raised eyebrows, asked if I’d had it custom-made in Milan. I simply smiled and let the mystery linger. The tux held its own through hours of mingling, dancing, and even a few strategic maneuvers to avoid the advances of a rather persistent heiress. And by the end of the night? Not a wrinkle to be found. Now, about the fit—be warned. It's tight. Very tight. If you decide to give this tux a try, order two or even three sizes up. And unless you have time to see a tailor, the trousers will almost certainly need hemming. In a real pinch, fabric tape will do the trick. But once you’ve got the sizing sorted, it’s all smooth sailing from there.

Tricky Fit
Size: 3X-Large, Color: Black
First order returned - pants fit, jacket & vest too small. Reordered a size up - pants too big, jacket & vest fit. The pants had to be hem and waistband taken in. And still need suspenders. My advice, give yourself enough time for alterations.

Good quality
Size: 3X-Large, Color: Black
Loved the quality for the price. Fit is more for a size under what is listed. The pants are hip huggers not waist high.
