Dark elegance redefined – Alocasia Black Velvet Medium
Alocasia reginula ‘Black Velvet’ | Fast EU shipping | Grown with love in the EU
Summary: This compact yet impactful Alocasia boasts deep velvety black leaves with contrasting silver veins, bringing dramatic sophistication to any indoor jungle.
✨ Why You'll Love the Alocasia Black Velvet
- Stunning dark velvety foliage with bright silver veins
- Medium size (P12 pot | H20cm) perfect for desktops, side tables, or moody plant corners
- Compact and slow-growing, ideal for small European apartments
- Easy to style in minimalist or gothic-themed interiors
🌞 Light & Placement
Thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates lower light better than other Alocasias. Avoid direct sun to maintain leaf colour and prevent scorching.
💧 Water & Humidity
Prefers slightly moist soil with good drainage. Let the top 2-3 cm of soil dry out between waterings. Loves high humidity (60-80%).
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix with perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir. Repot every 1-2 years to refresh the substrate and maintain healthy roots.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and children.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Slow-growing with a clumping habit. Produces underground rhizomes that can be divided carefully during repotting for propagation.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
Reduce watering in winter dormancy. Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to keep them dust-free and enhance their velvety appearance.
🐛 Common Issues
Prone to root rot if overwatered. Watch for spider mites in low humidity environments.
🧬 Botanical Background
Alocasia reginula ‘Black Velvet’ is native to Borneo and prized for its jewel-like, compact form and uniquely dark foliage, making it a must-have for rare aroid collectors.
