Common name: Peace Lily ‘Chopin’
Latin name: Spathiphyllum ‘Chopin’
Best position in the home: Thrives in bright, indirect light but will tolerate lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. Ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, and offices, and particularly well suited to slightly more humid rooms like bathrooms.
Water requirements: Keep the soil consistently lightly moist, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. The plant will gently droop when it needs water, making it easy to read. Reduce watering in winter and avoid waterlogging. Prefers moderate humidity.
Home impact: With its glossy green leaves and elegant white blooms, ‘Chopin’ brings a calm, fresh feel to any space. It’s often associated with improving indoor air quality in a general sense. Not pet-friendly, as it is toxic if ingested.
Potential height at full growth: Typically grows to around 40–60cm indoors, with a compact, tidy habit.
How to look after it: Place in bright, indirect light or partial shade. Water regularly to keep soil lightly moist but not soggy. Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertiliser. Remove spent flowers to encourage new blooms. Wipe leaves occasionally and repot every couple of years as needed.
Beginner friendliness 4/5
Easy Going! A reliable and forgiving houseplant that clearly shows when it needs attention. With regular watering and the right light, it will reward you with long-lasting blooms.
‘Chopin’ is a more compact variety of Peace Lily, making it ideal for smaller spaces. Yellowing leaves can indicate overwatering, while lack of flowers may mean it needs a little more light.
