Description

The Blood Orange is a variety of orange (citrus sinensis) with a crimson red / blood colored flesh.

The fruit ranges from small to medium sized with a pitted skin (though it is occasionally smooth.)

Blood Oranges owe their distinctive appearance to a pigment called anthocyanin not typically found in citrus, but common in other red fruits and flowers.

Not only is the inside of the orange darkly pigmented, but the outside may feature dark washes of red.

If you've never eaten a blood orange before, you're in for a real treat.  They're not only tasty, but they make one of the finest orange juices in the world.

This fruit producer makes a good indoor bonsai tree.
