Description

compost free potting mix SymbiOp Peat-Free Organic Potting Soil Mix (Coco #5)Peat free is a big deal for us, because almost all store bought soil contains peat, an ingredient harvested from peatlands. Peatlands are the largest natural carbon storages on the planet, better than forests. Peat harvests degrades such habitats. It's nearly impossible to restore them afterwards. This makes common potting soil one of the largest contributors to climate change in the gardening world. Luckily we were able to work with our soil vendor

Peat-free is a big deal for us, because almost all store-bought soil contains peat, an ingredient harvested from peatlands. Peatlands are the largest natural carbon storages on the planet, better than forests. Peat harvests degrades such habitats. It's nearly impossible to restore them afterwards. This makes common potting soil one of the largest contributors to climate change in the gardening world.

Luckily we were able to work with our soil vendor to create SymbiOp's Peat-free Mix, which uses coconut coir instead of peat. Coconut fiber serves a similar function as peat in potting soil - increase water retention, microbial populations, and nutrients. By choosing our Peat-free Blend, you get the same benefits while removing a large contributor of greenhouse gas. It certainly won’t fix all of our ecological problems, but it is a step in the right direction!

Contains: Coconut Coir, Pumice, Perlite, Compost, Worm Castings, Dolomite, Kelp Meal, Alfalfa Meal, 8-5-5 Organic Fertilizer, Bat Guano, Soybean Meal, Basalt Minerals.

All inputs Certified Organic

Engaging study of the underpinnings of AI
Format: Kindle
This “atlas” maps what is often forgotten when discussing AI: material needs like the extraction of lithium and other minerals from the earth with the destruction of nature that requires and the workers, as well as the epistemological constraints of classification and the false proxies of data. The book is engagingly written and easy to follow while richly sourced. I’ll probably assign at least a couple of chapters to undergrads in our digital culture program. I would have loved an audio book version - but I listened to it using automatic text to speech on my phone and it was surprisingly not awful. This is the first time I’ve done that with a whole book.

A Critical Perspective on the Hype and Reality of AI
Format: Hardcover
Of the many books I have read on AI, having been interested in the topic for 35 years, this is perhaps the most profound. When I read the abstract I thought the goals for the book were going to be almost impossible to achieve. But Kate Crawford has succeeded wonderfully. I find myself referring back to marked sections of the book — and perhaps most importantly questioning some long-held beliefs I have had on the topics. I have shared the book with friends with less time invested in the topic — and they were equally glowing. I hope this finds its way onto the summer reading lists of people with far-flung interests.

My grandson loves these books!
Format: Hardcover
These books are a big hit with my grandson. They are full of facts about each animal and by comparing strengths and weaknesses determine which would overcome the other. He’s learning so much about animals’ behavior and survival skills.

My Son Can’t Get Enough of Who Would Win
Format: Hardcover
My four-year-old son is absolutely obsessed with the Who Would Win series! We really enjoy the interesting facts sprinkled throughout the chapters - it makes reading together both fun and educational. Since discovering these books, we’ve happily added more titles to our Who Would Win collection. Highly recommend for curious young readers!
