Chionoides Rhododendron (Rhododendron 'Chionoides')

Chionoides Rhododendron is a clean, classic evergreen shrub that brightens part-shade landscapes with crisp white blooms in late spring. Its broadleaf evergreen foliage keeps beds looking full and finished all year, making it a strong choice for foundation structure and woodland-style layering. The white flower trusses lift darker corners and pair easily with any surrounding colors, from deep greens to soft pastels. With the right soil and moisture, it becomes a long-lived anchor that delivers both seasonal impact and steady presence.

Distinctive Features

This evergreen rhododendron forms a dense, rounded shrub with large, leathery green leaves and showy trusses of white flowers that can open from faintly tinted buds for subtle depth. The bloom display is substantial and refined rather than flashy, and the foliage provides a rich, dark backdrop that stays attractive through winter. Mature plants typically reach about 4 to 6 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, giving it versatile scale for foundation beds, mixed borders, and mass plantings.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Part shade is ideal, with morning sun and afternoon shade helping flowers last longer and foliage stay healthy.
  • Soil: Acidic, organic, well-drained soil is essential, and it performs best in mulch-rich, woodland-style beds.
  • Water: Keep evenly moist, especially during establishment and summer heat, avoiding soggy conditions.
  • USDA Zones: Zones 5 to 8.
  • Deer: Deer may browse, so protect plants where pressure is high.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use as a focal point in a shaded bed where the white bloom trusses can brighten the view in late spring.
  • Evergreen Structure: Adds year-round mass and a finished look to beds and borders.
  • Foundation Planting: Creates a refined evergreen presence along homes and buildings in part shade.
  • Woodland Edge: Fits naturally under open canopies and along tree lines with other acid-loving plants.
  • Mass Planting: Plant in groups to create a cohesive sweep of evergreen texture and bright spring bloom.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Planting: Plant shallow with the root flare slightly above grade, and choose a site protected from harsh wind and hot afternoon sun.
  • Mulching: Mulch with pine bark or similar organic material to conserve moisture and support soil acidity.
  • Watering: Water deeply during dry spells, especially in summer and before the ground freezes in late fall.
  • Pruning: Prune right after flowering if needed, and remove spent flower trusses to tidy the plant and support bud set.
  • Feeding: Use a light feeding for acid-loving shrubs after bloom if growth is weak, avoiding heavy fertilization.

Why Choose Chionoides Rhododendron?

  • Crisp White Blooms: Bright flower trusses lift shaded areas and complement any landscape palette.
  • Evergreen Presence: Leathery foliage keeps the landscape looking full and established year-round.
  • Versatile Size: Mid-size habit fits foundation beds and borders without overwhelming nearby plantings.
  • Great for Massing: Repeats well in groups for a cohesive, upscale evergreen backdrop.
  • Shade-Friendly Performance: Thrives in part shade where many flowering shrubs struggle.

If you want an evergreen rhododendron that brightens shade with a clean, classic bloom show, Chionoides Rhododendron is a strong choice. It delivers a refined late-spring display, then holds the bed together with rich evergreen foliage through every season.

A great line of sight phone holder with a few flaws.
Overall this does the job and is priced affordably the pros and cons are as follows: Pros: Strong magnet Solid construction Great for line of sight Charges well Cons: Charging cable is not long enough to route inside my car holder tends to droop down slightly with my phone on it (Pixel 7), not so much that it's failing but just not holding it's set position

Does not swivel and slow charger
As mentioned in another review, you cannot change the angle of the phone so it faces the other way since it does not swivel. Wish I wish I would have known that before placing it. Also, the charger is REALLY slow. It’s slower than the MagSafe chargers I have in my house. I’m not sure if this is defective. I only used it on my way home from work, and I will be returning it.

Almost perfect
Style: Screen+Charger
Solid mount. I’ve tried other ones but they don’t sit as nicely as this one. It also has a lot of adjustments to allow for using it any way you need it to so it is very versatile. The magnet strength is really good and holds my phone really well. Sometimes it feels too strong which I guess is a good thing. The charging works well but I wish the cable was a little longer

Almost Perfect But With Workaround it Rocks
Style: Dash+Screen+Qi2 Charger, Style: Dash+Screen+Qi2 Charger
This works almost perfectly in my Tesla, with one small tweak for hot summer conditions. It holds my phone very well overall—I position it slightly off-center at about the 10 o’clock position. However, with a larger phone like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the combination of weight and summer heat can cause the mount to slowly rotate as the suction cup loses some grip. I found a simple fix that works extremely well: applying a small amount of rosin (the same kind used for violin bows) to the friction point where the rotating arm meets the suction base. That added grip completely solved the issue. Now the mount stays exactly where I position it, even in the heat. Solid product, and with that minor adjustment, it performs exactly how I need it to.
