Cultivation Conditions

▼

Light Requirements

Chambeyronia macrocarpa 'Hookeri' thrives in bright, indirect light or partial shade. It can tolerate some direct sunlight but may require protection from the harsh midday sun to prevent leaf burn. Ideal locations include filtered light conditions or under the canopy of taller trees.

Temperature Preferences

This palm prefers warm, tropical climates with temperatures ranging from 20-30 °C (68-86 °F). It is sensitive to frost and should be protected from temperatures below 10 °C (50 °F). In cooler climates, it is best grown in a container that can be moved indoors or to a sheltered area during winter.

Soil Requirements

The Hooker's Red Palm prefers well-draining, rich soil with good organic content. A mix of loam, sand, and compost is ideal. It can adapt to various soil types but performs best in slightly acidic to neutral conditions. Proper drainage is essential to avoid root rot.

Water Management

Regular watering is crucial, especially during the growing season. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering frequency in the winter or cooler periods when growth slows.

Planting and Care

▼

Planting Location

Choose a location with bright, indirect light or partial shade. Ensure the soil is well-draining and enriched with organic matter. If planting in a container, select a pot with adequate drainage holes and use a well-draining potting mix.

Fertilization Program

Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for palms or general-purpose plants every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. This supports healthy growth and vibrant foliage. Reduce fertilization during winter.

Maintenance and Pruning

Regularly prune dead or damaged fronds to maintain a tidy appearance and promote new growth. Chambeyronia macrocarpa 'Hookeri' is generally resistant to pests and diseases but should be monitored for common issues such as scale insects or spider mites and treated as needed.

Growing from Seeds

▼

Seed Preparation

For best results, use fresh seeds. Soak the seeds in warm water for 24-48 hours to help soften the seed coat and improve germination rates.

Sowing Process

Sow seeds in a well-draining seed-starting mix, such as a blend of peat, perlite, and sand. Plant the seeds about 1-2 cm (0.5-1 inch) deep.

Germination Conditions

Keep the seed tray in a warm, humid environment with temperatures around 25-30 °C (77-86 °F). Maintain consistent moisture without waterlogging. Germination can take several weeks to a few months, so patience is essential.

Seedling Care

Once seedlings emerge, provide them with bright, indirect light and keep the soil consistently moist. Gradually acclimate them to more direct light as they grow. Transplant seedlings into larger pots or directly into the garden when they are large enough to handle.

great start to a series
Format: Kindle
This was my first read from this author, and I am intrigued to continue the series! This is a college, why choose, between 4 football guys and the new girl in town. The FMC, Joey, is accused of seeing something she shouldn’t and is forced to move in with the guys in their isle until the end of football season. Joey is a girl who’s had a shit hand in life, but has continued to persevere. She deals with silent demons but doesn’t let them take control of her life. She has spunk and doesn’t cower. Kylian is the BEST. Hands down my favorite! He’s our blunt, neurodivergent cinnamon roll. Locke is a close second, he’s all about Joey from the moment they meet. Decker - now he’ll grow on you, I’m curious to see how he expands in book 2. Kendrick- not a fan lol. But there’s always a least favorite in these stories. This is a slow burn, but to be expected when there are multiple MMC to contend with. This story had good flow, and really grabbed my attention. I read in one sitting. I plan to continue the series!

Interesting Start
Format: Kindle
I have a harder time with why choose books that take place in contemporary versus fantasy books, because oftentimes the scenarios required to make it work just seem to out there for me. I felt like this book kind of strayed into that territory. The whole basis of the book is that Josephine accidentally sees something she honestly does not really even understand and the four guys solution is basically to kidnap her and make her live with them in their home. There was a bit of suspension of disbelief required for me in this book. That being said there were some things I did enjoy in this book. I felt like the men in this book were interesting and different from one another. They weren’t just cut out of hot football players that have the same personalities and ideals. Personally, for me, I really preferred Kylian because he was the nerdy guy, and that just works for me. He also has some sensory sensitivities and because of that and his coping mechanisms he has the ability to connect more with Jo than any of the other guys given her backstory. Josephine as a character is okay for me, I’m interested to see how she evolves. She has a complex/tragic backstory which I think will play into things a lot more in the next books to come. I do think she goes along with the scenario waaaayyyy to quickly and almost passively, which I have a hard time buying into. Overall, I want to see where the next book goes, given it does end with high stakes and a cliffhanger.

Gah! My heart! These boys! So much love!
Format: Kindle
I have so much love in my heart for this book. While that cliffhanger was absolutely atrocious and soul wrecking, I couldn't begin to explain the obsession that has begun in my bones. These characters are delicious, their interactions are so strong and real, and their pasts, their trauma, are so heartfelt and elicit all the feels. I love them, I love their stories, the details and relationships are so poignant that I craved every moment of this journey. I seriously devoured this book, I could not put it down, well into early dawn hours just to finish. It was like breathing, and I didn't want to stop. Abby has a serious new fan, and I'm so happy to have stumbled upon this book and author. Now, I absolutely have to get to the next one because I'm suffocating with the need for Kylian and the others, of course. Soo so worth it!

From its intricately woven plot to its compelling characters, this novel delivers an immersive reading experience that will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next installment. At its core, "Queen of Roses" is an enchanting tale of forbidden love and destiny, featuring an exceptionally slow-burn romance that ignites with the intensity of an enemies-to-lovers trope. While the novel excels in world-building, character development, and plot intricacies, some readers may yearn for a bit more fire and spice in certain aspects of the narrative.
