An heirloom fennel known as Finocchio in Italy. The celery like stalks and bulbs of this beautiful plant have a beautiful feathery blue green foliage. Fennel has a mild licorice flavor that is great raw in salads, tossed in stir fry's, in soups and amazing roasted!   Our fennel variety is great for containers.

Fennel is also a host plant for the Black Swallowtail butterfly!  Female butterflies lay their eggs only on certain host plants that will nourish the young caterpillars after they hatch. Grow these plants, supply food for the caterpillars, and remember to allow the caterpillar to devour the host plants!

Gardener Tips

Transplant after danger of frost has subsided. Can easily be divided in spring or fall. Do not disturb roots, can cause plants to bolt. Best to grow in moderate temperatures. Hot/cold extremes cause bulbs to get tough. 

If starting seeds indoors, it is key that your new starts be hardened off.  This is a process that requires taking them outside during the day, for a period of time, before they are planted. This acclimates your seedlings to the outside world, meaning the elements like the wind and sun. We do it for several weeks to a month as this strengthens their stems and overall plant structure. 

  • Start for a short period of time initially, then graduate to more time each day
  • One week minimum is recommended
  • Bring them inside in the early evening and overnight
  • Keep an eye on them and constantly water them. Make sure they have not blown over. 

Harvesting Tips

Signs it’s ready to harvest

  • Bulb is rounded and swollen at the base

  • Bulb feels firm and solid

  • Stalks are still fresh and green

How to harvest

  • Use a sharp knife to cut the bulb just below the soil line.

  • Trim off the stalks and feathery fronds, leaving about 1–2 inches above the bulb.

  • The fronds can be saved and used like dill for flavoring.

For extended harvest

  • Harvest bulbs before they become too large, as oversized bulbs may become tough or fibrous.

  • Regular harvesting encourages the best flavor and texture.

They really do work!

I rarely give reviews that aren’t motivated by disappointment, but this is one of them. Medicube makes several products that I use alongside $170 serums and creams, and the Zero Pore Pad is one of them. I love the dual texture, and even after using a pre-cleanser and a “microfolient” face wash (both expensive washes from by Dermologica), the Zero Pore Pad is my ONLY choice for a toner. Compared to the products that go on after using the pads, the pads are incredibly affordable for the results I’ve seen. On the rougher side of the pad, this toner still somehow finds pockets of sebum that are visible on the pad after using as directed. It’s like magic. I’m on my third container of Zero Pore Pads and I can say, without a doubt, they have had noticeable results on my skin, mostly on my nose and the cheek area around my nose. The size of my pores are now smaller, almost invisible. This is despite the fact that I layer a bunch of serums, creams and a moisturizer at night that I lock in with the peel-off Medicube collagen mask. Despite the weight of it all on my pores, the pads still have worked, and they aren’t harsh like some toners-but if you have very sensitive skin or are on acne medication, go with their milder sister product). I wash my face three times a day due to the ick of polluted air and layers of moisturizer and sunscreen, so I’ve been using these three times a day, but occasionally I use the Koji and Tumeric Pads, which have had no noticeable effect aside from serving as a basic toner. The application is lovely on all Medicube’s pads with their dual texture, but like the collagen mask these Zero Pore Pads really do work (for me). Because skin varies with age and melanin content, I am a pale white woman (female at birth) of Scandinavian descent so I don’t know if these would have had the same impact on me at age 17, but now they work, really well. I literally have the glass skin K-beauty prizes—I just used the pads and thought I had something on my face because my skin was shining. I love these, try them!

Good toner pad option

I like these to use no more than 1-2x a week for my skin. I use them before bed and wake up noticing smoother and more event toned skin. If you use them too often, they can cause redness and irritation, but I have never gotten a rash or a breakout because of them. I will say, they do not exfoliate all your texture away and refine your pores to perfection like the marketing says, but nothing does. The AHA and BHA are the chemical exfoliants and work just like they do in any other product. The pads are very moist and stay saturated in the container as long as you keep the lid shut. Overall, a good toner pad option to be used occasionally in your routine and do not mix with any other actives.

The Biggest Visible Change I’ve Seen in My Skin in Years

If I could only keep one skincare product, it would honestly be these pads. Even after trying peels, tools, clay masks, exfoliants, and retinol, this is the most noticeable improvement I’ve seen in my skin.
