Dried lily flowers, also known as golden needles, tiger lily buds, or dok mai jeen in Thai, are the unopened buds of the daylily plant. Revered in Asian cuisine for their musky, subtly sweet flavor and crisp texture, they are primarily used in broths, stir-fries, and herbal teas.
Culinary Uses
Soups & Stews: Often featured in hot and sour soups. Once rehydrated, they absorb savory flavors and add a delicate floral aroma to broths.
Stir-Fries: Provide a slight crunch and unique texture when tossed into wok dishes with vegetables, noodles, or tofu.
Herbal Teas: The dried flowers can be steeped directly in hot water, sometimes combined with goji berries or honey, for a calming, fragrant tea.
Preparation Tips
Soak: Soak the dried buds in warm water for 15–30 minutes until they soften.
Trim: Cut off and discard the tough, hard stem ends.
Knot: To prevent them from falling apart in long-simmering dishes, you can tie the long flowers into a simple loose knot before cooking
