Summary

Let’s Dance® Blue Jangles® solves a problem every hydrangea lover knows: finding a blue mophead that actually fits in a small space. At just 1 to 2 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, it is the most compact blue hydrangea available, delivering the same petal-packed flower clusters and reblooming performance of its larger relatives in a fraction of the footprint.

The large mophead blooms appear in early summer and continue into fall, fueled by the plant’s ability to flower on both old and new wood. In acidic soils, the blooms are a rich, vibrant blue; in neutral to alkaline conditions, they shift to saturated pink. Either way, the color is vivid and deeply saturated, not the washed-out tones that sometimes appear on less vigorous reblooming hydrangeas.

The tight, compact habit makes Blue Jangles® ideal for the front of borders, along walkways, in containers, and in small garden spaces where a standard 4 to 6 foot hydrangea would be out of scale. Sturdy stems keep the blooms upright even on this diminutive frame.

Care

Let’s Dance® Blue Jangles® Bigleaf Hydrangea Care

Plant in a location with morning sun and afternoon shade for best results, especially in warmer zones. In cooler climates, more sun is tolerated with consistent moisture. Blue Jangles® prefers moist, well-drained soil and benefits from a 2 to 3 inch layer of mulch year-round to keep roots cool and retain moisture.

Water regularly — bigleaf hydrangeas are sensitive to drought and will show stress quickly in dry conditions. Fertilize once in spring with a slow release fertilizer if desired. To encourage blue blooms, amend the soil with aluminum sulfate; for pink blooms, add garden lime.

Avoid pruning except to remove obviously dead wood in early spring. Although Blue Jangles® blooms on both old and new wood, pruning reduces overall flower count. The compact habit stays tidy naturally without shaping.

Additional Information

What is the botanical name of Let’s Dance® Blue Jangles® Bigleaf Hydrangea?

The botanical name is Hydrangea macrophylla ‘SMHMTAU’ (PP27035). It is also known as French hydrangea, florist’s hydrangea, or mophead hydrangea. It is part of the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs collection.

What makes Blue Jangles® different from other bigleaf hydrangeas?

Blue Jangles® is the most compact blue hydrangea on the market. Standard bigleaf hydrangeas reach 3 to 6 feet; Blue Jangles® stays at just 1 to 2 feet tall. Despite its small size, it produces full-sized mophead flowers with the same vivid color saturation as larger varieties. Browse our Proven Winners® collection for more options.

Can Blue Jangles® be grown in a container?

Yes. Its compact size makes it one of the best hydrangeas for container growing. Use a quality potting mix, maintain consistent moisture, and provide morning sun with afternoon shade. Plants hardy in the ground may require winter protection when grown in containers in colder zones.

Does soil pH affect the flower color?

Yes. In acidic soils with available aluminum, blooms will be blue. In neutral to alkaline soils, they will be pink. You can adjust color by amending the soil with aluminum sulfate (for blue) or garden lime (for pink). Explore our Shrubs & Bushes collection for more flowering options.

Light, comfy, and a brand you can trust with your feet
Size: 3.5 Big Kid, Color: Black/White
My son tears through shoes and somehow they're perpetually untied, no matter what we do. These are great as they don't need to be tied but look laced up, are very light and cushiony, and just look great so they go with everything. Saucony is also a great trusted brand that I've run a few marathons in myself, so I figured, let's try a pair and see how long they last. It's only been a few days but I'm getting good reviews from my son and they're his new go to pair.

Bought the shoe because it was recommended by a podiatrist for young kids and I'm pleased with what seems like good support.
