ZZ Black Raven is the most dramatic and coveted variation of the classic ZZ Plant. Its waxy, oval leaflets emerge bright green and then slowly, over several weeks, deepen to an extraordinary near-black — a deep, glossy, almost iridescent darkness that makes it one of the most striking plants in any collection. It has all the legendary toughness of the standard ZZ but with a gothic, architectural presence that stops people in their tracks.
Good for beginners? Yes. Black Raven ZZ is just as forgiving as the standard ZZ Plant. It tolerates low light, extended drought, and neglect without complaint. The dark color develops naturally over time — no special care required.
Safe for cats and dogs? ZZ Plant is toxic to pets if ingested. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.
Light needs: Adaptable to low, medium, or bright indirect light. It survives in very low-light rooms. Brighter indirect light encourages faster growth and the deepest, most dramatic black coloring on maturing leaves. Avoid direct sun.
Care at a glance: Water only when the soil is completely dry. Its water-storing rhizomes make it extremely drought-tolerant. Feed once or twice during spring and summer. Note that new leaves emerge green — the near-black color develops gradually as they mature.
