Mother of thousands (Kalanchoe daigremontiana) is a succulent plant that belongs to the family Crassulaceae. It is native to Madagascar but is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in many parts of the world.
The plant is named for its ability to produce numerous plantlets along the edges of its leaves, which can eventually grow into new plants. The leaves are thick and fleshy, with serrated edges, and are often tinged with shades of green, gray, or purple.
Mother of thousands is a relatively easy plant to grow and requires well-draining soil, bright, indirect light, and moderate watering. It can be propagated by planting the plantlets that grow along the edges of the leaves, or by leaf or stem cuttings.
While Mother of thousands is primarily grown for its ornamental value, it is also sometimes used in traditional medicine for various ailments, such as diarrhea and inflammation. However, caution should be exercised when handling the plant, as it can be toxic to humans and pets if ingested in large quantities.
