Aglaonema 'Spring Red', also called Chinese Evergreen, is a tropical plant native to the forests of Southeast Asia. Its broad, glossy foliage blends bright pink, red, and deep green tones in contrasting patterns — one of the few indoor plants to bring color without flowers, and permanently.

Robust and easy, it tolerates missed waterings and adapts to various light levels — but keeps its most intense pink tones with good indirect light. It also helps purify indoor air. Note: toxic if ingested by pets.

Which Aglaonema variety to choose?

Aglaonemas are mainly distinguished by the color of their foliage. Here are the most distinct profiles from our collection:

  • Aglaonema 'Spring Red' (this plant) — bright pink, red, and green foliage, permanent colorful patterns. The only warm-colored variety in the collection.
  • Aglaonema 'Jungle Silver' — large, highly contrasting silver areas on a dark green background. The most graphic in low light.
  • Aglaonema Silver Bay — wide central silver band, elegant habit. The most classic and accessible.
  • Aglaonema Silver Queen — almost entirely silver foliage. The brightest.
  • Aglaonema B.J. Freedman — large size 70 cm, imposing dark green foliage. The bulkiest.

Spring Red is the only variety in our catalog with warm-colored foliage — if you're looking for a plant that brings warmth and color without flowers, this is it. Find all varieties in our complete collection.

Exposure & location

Aglaonema 'Spring Red' needs a bit more light than the silver varieties to maintain the intensity of its pink tones — this is its main requirement compared to other Aglaonemas.

  • Ideal exposure: medium to bright indirect light — near an east- or west-facing window with sheer curtains.
  • Tolerates: partial shade — but new leaves will be greener and less pink.
  • Avoid: direct sunlight that burns leaves and dulls pink tones.
  • Temperature: 18–24 °C — sensitive to cold. Growth stops below 15 °C.
  • Soil: light universal potting mix with some perlite.

If new leaves come out greener and less pink, move the plant closer to a window. The color returns on new shoots as soon as there is enough light.

Watering & care

  • Watering: moderate — let the top 2–3 centimeters of soil dry out between waterings.
  • Frequency: about once a week in summer, every 10–14 days in winter.
  • Water: room temperature, filtered or left to stand for 24 hours — lime causes brown tips.
  • Humidity: prefers 40–60% humidity — mist occasionally in very dry air.
  • Fertilizer: liquid green plant fertilizer diluted by half, once a month in spring and summer.
  • Cleaning: wipe leaves with a damp cloth to preserve their shine and promote photosynthesis.

Aglaonema easily forgives missed waterings — when in doubt, wait rather than water too much. Overwatering is its main cause of decline.

Decor ideas & plant pairings

The Spring Red is the Aglaonema that brings warmth — its pink and red tones instantly warm up a room without needing flowers.

  • As a color accent: placed on a shelf or piece of furniture in a neutral interior, it creates a warm, lively focal point without overwhelming the space.
  • In arrangement: pair it with a Jungle Silver or a Zamioculcas for a very effective warm/cool foliage contrast.
  • Ideal pot: matte white, beige, or terracotta ceramic — warm and neutral tones enhance the pinks without competing with them.

Group several varieties of Aglaonema with different variegations for a cohesive indoor tropical display — same care needs, varied visual palette.

Verdeia Tips

  • Light controls color — this is the key point for Spring Red. Without enough indirect light, new leaves lose their pink tones and turn greener again. Move to brighter light and the color returns on new growth.
  • Yellow leaves: overwatering — always empty the saucer after watering and let the soil dry out more. In pots, yellowing is almost always due to stagnant moisture.
  • Brown tips: hard water or dry air — switch to filtered or rested water (24 h), and mist the foliage in very dry conditions.
  • Protect from cold — below 15 °C, growth stops and spots appear. Keep away from poorly insulated windows in winter.
  • Repot in spring without urgency — Aglaonema prefers to be slightly root-bound. Repot only when roots appear under the pot, every 2–3 years.
  • ⚠️ Toxic to pets and humans — contains irritating calcium oxalates. Keep out of reach of cats, dogs, and young children. See our plants and pets guide for suitable alternatives.

The Dog LOVES IT!
I bought this for my ex-wife's Pitbull. He is an aggressive chewer and usually destroys any toy I buy him. But not this one! The ball is small enough and pliable that it gives when he chomps on it. He loves this ball and seems to be his favorite toy. Thank you for making a product that he likes and can't destroy!

My Golden Retriever’s favorite
We’ve owned lots of toys and balls. This specific version (in blue) has been her absolute favorite. She’s about 72lbs and chews on this thing regularly with no visible damage. We actually own about 6 of them because they have a tendency to go missing underneath furniture and in the yard. We have two of the orange colored ones but she doesn’t like those nearly as much which I assume is because the blue is easier to see in the grass. Other than that…They bounce really well and also whistle a little when you throw them hard enough. I hope they never stop making these.

doesn't whistle as loud as other chuckit balls I've seen, but a good ball.
makes some noise, but I've seen (and played with) others at the dog park that whistle much louder than the 1 I got. all Chuckit balls... so, just this one I'm betting. but it flys good and the dog loves to chase it. he chews it a fair bit as well and the ball has not taken much damage from him (lab mix) or others that have had a go at it. I'll likely buy another at some point ... just wish it was a little louder when flying.

Blue ball, my dog likes blue.
Just a ball right? Evidently not! My dog won’t chase an orange chuck it ball or the glow in the dark ball- only the blue one 🤷🏼‍♀️
