A subtle play of light and leaf - the Philodendron Camouflage is a rare sight among Philodendrons. This plant does not immediately attract attention with garish colors, but those who look closely will discover the refined beauty of its subtle variety.

Origin

The Philodendron Camouflage is a rare cultivar with probable roots in South America. As its name suggests, its leaf pattern resembles a kind of natural camouflage - mixture of greens with a hint of cream or pale yellow, depending on conditions. This plant is especially sought after in collecting circles for its delicate and unpredictable leaf pattern.

Characteristics

The heart-shaped leaves have a silky sheen and display a subtle but often enchanting variety reminiscent of watercolors on paper. The degree of variegation is variable and is strongly influenced by light intensity: in bright, indirect sunlight, lighter patterns may develop more strongly, while in shadow the leaves remain deep green. No two leaves are the same - each leaf seems like a new, living painting.

Care

Light

Place the plant in a spot with plenty of bright, indirect light. An east or west window is ideal. Direct sunlight can cause leaf damage, but too little light can reduce variety.

Temperature

Between 18 and 28°C, this feels Philodendron most comfortable. Avoid drafts and rapid drops in temperature.

Substrate

Use an airy, well-draining substrate based on bark, peat and coir, for example. The roots like oxygen and should not be constantly wet.

Humidity

A humidity of 60% or higher is ideal. In drier environments, a humidifier can help keep leaf tips nice.

Nutrition

Feed the plant once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, diluted houseplant food.

Watering

Water only when the top layer of the substrate has dried up. Preferably use demineralized water or clean rainwater to avoid mineral buildup.

Flowering

This Philodendron is grown primarily for its foliage and rarely blooms in domestic conditions. Its flowers are inconspicuous and do not add to its ornamental value.

seems like an unspecified struggle with herself
Format: Hardcover
I don't know. It'ts a struggle for her to come up with the next line. Doesn't feel especially creative, inspired, or notably intelligent. I read other disappointed reviews people had written about this book, & bought it anyway. I tend to have avant-garde sensibilities, so I thought I'd enjoy it for its avant-garde qualities. I really tried to appreiate the experimentality of it, but I couldn't, because I realised I was readin it more for the sake of reading, & because I enjoy reading, than because this book is any good. I know a lot of unskilled teenagers who write dada-influenced poetry that's much more interesting than this uninspired book; I don't see what makes Anne Carson so special. 1 star because it's not a good book. 1 more star, bringing the total to 2, because I feel bad just giving it 1 star. At least she wrote something...

A Slip-Up
Format: Paperback
I don't know what happened here but Carson's last two books have really gone down hill. Men in the Off Hours, her first book since Autobiography of Red, is a mess. I don't know how else to describe it. It's not that I'd expect an easy read after her last book--just a consistent one. There are poems in here that first appeared in prose elsewhere and now are in lines! This suggests a lack of understanding of the line and its history and uses on the part of the writer, which shocks me since Plainwater and Autobiography of Red I truly liked. I would not suggest this book if you like Anne Carson. It will disappoint you!

It’s alright
Format: Paperback
Definitely would be great for a teenager. As a 20 year old, not my favorite at all. If I was in junior high, I would’ve loved this book, but as an adult could not finish it. Love the cowboy theme and Texas A&M references though!
