Lablab (Lablab purpureus), also known as hyacinth bean, is a warm-season legume that serves as an excellent wildlife food source due to its high protein content and vigorous growth. It is particularly favored for deer food plots, as it provides nutritious forage throughout the summer and fall. Additionally, lablab improves soil health by fixing nitrogen, making it a valuable rotational cover crop.

Benefits for Wildlife Habitat

High protein forage (25–30%) for deer, rabbits, and livestock.
Drought-resistant and thrives in hot climates.
Nitrogen-fixing legume that enriches soil health.
Attracts pollinators and beneficial insects.
✔ Produces abundant vining foliage for food and cover.

Planting Guidelines for Lablab

  • Planting Times:

    • Spring to Early Summer (April–June) – After the last frost, when soil temperatures reach 65°F or higher.
  • Seeding Depth:

    • 1 to 1.5 inches deep – Seeds should be placed deep enough to ensure moisture retention for germination.
  • Seeding Rates:

    • Drilled: 15–20 lbs per acre for rows with controlled spacing.
    • Broadcast: 25–30 lbs per acre, followed by light cultipacking to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
  • Days to Maturity:

    • 90–120 days – Lablab reaches full maturity within this time frame, but deer and livestock can begin browsing 30–45 days after planting.
  • Height at Maturity:

    • Lablab vines can reach 3–10 feet, depending on growth conditions.
  • Drought Tolerance:

    • High – Lablab thrives in dry, hot environments due to its deep root system.
  • Saturated Soil Tolerance:

    • Low – Lablab does not perform well in waterlogged or poorly drained soils.
  • Shade Tolerance:

    • Low – Prefers full sun for maximum growth and forage production.

Fertilization Guidelines for Lablab

  • Soil pH: Prefers a slightly acidic to neutral range of 6.0–7.0.
  • Nitrogen (N): Minimal nitrogen is needed, as lablab fixes its own nitrogen through root nodules. However, a starter application of 20–30 lbs per acre can promote early growth.
  • Phosphorus (P): 40–60 lbs P₂O₅ per acre to support root and flower development.
  • Potassium (K): 40–60 lbs K₂O per acre for overall plant vigor and drought resistance.

Fertilization Timing:

  • Apply phosphorus and potassium before planting.
  • Side-dress with additional potassium mid-season if needed.

Herbicide Use for Lablab

  • Weed Management:

    • Lablab competes well once established, but early weed pressure can hinder germination and growth.
  • Pre-emergence Herbicides:

    • Prowl H2O (Pendimethalin) – Controls annual grasses and some broadleaf weeds.
    • Dual Magnum (S-metolachlor) – Provides residual control of grasses and small-seeded broadleaf weeds.
  • Post-emergence Herbicides:

    • Clethodim (Select Max) – Controls grasses without harming broadleaf lablab.
    • Imazethapyr (Pursuit) – Can be used selectively for broadleaf weed suppression, but care should be taken.

Key Considerations:

  • Avoid glyphosate unless using a shielded sprayer or applying before planting.

Good Basic Chair with a Few Drawbacks
Color: Black
I bought this Amazon Basics office task chair for my boyfriend who works from home. Overall, it’s a decent, simple chair that gets the job done for everyday use, especially if you just need something functional and affordable. However, there are a couple of downsides. The recline doesn’t go back as much as he would like, so it’s not ideal if you prefer to lean back and relax between tasks. Also, after about a month of use, the wheels don’t glide as smoothly as they did at first, which can be a bit frustrating when rolling across the floor. Overall, it’s a solid basic chair for light use, but if you want something with a deeper recline or super smooth mobility long-term, you might want to consider other options. Still a reasonable purchase depending on your needs.

Had for just over 9 years now and still pretty solid
Color: Black
I ordered this chair back in December 2015 for our front office, and it's been moved to our back shop where we fabricate. We're not a gentle work space by any stretch of the imagination; we build stuff and it's messy, lots of tools etc. This chair has held up surprisingly well! The faux leather is delaminating almost entirely on the seat but honestly, I'd expect that for faux leather on something that is used daily. The seat pad, in my opinion, has gotten de-poofed. So it's not plush anymore but still usable. I've asked the guy that's using it if they want an upgrade/update and they said they like it and don't want to change it out just yet. That's saying something! The size is nice and wide. We've had a range of differently sized folks sit in the chair over the years and the seat was always comfortable (less now without so much seat poof), I was able to sit cross-legged and the whole chair felt sturdy then as it does now. All of the standards functions you'd want an office chair to do, it can still do: it goes up and down smoothly, it rolls just fine, it's still pivot-reclines comfortably and doesn't feel like it's going to topple. I like it!

Good enough
Color: Black
Comfortable chair. Easy to put together. Allen nuts aren't cut perfectly so sometimes hard to get the wrench in there. My biggest complaint, and I didn't even realize this until I sat down in it, the arm rests are not adjustable and they are a little short for my liking.
