Solar Flare False Indigo (Baptisia hybrid 'Solar Flare')

Solar Flare False Indigo is a long-lived perennial valued for its color-changing flowers, blue-green foliage, and durable native-style performance. Its upright bloom spikes open bright yellow and mature to orange with a soft purple tinge, bringing warm, shifting color to sunny borders, pollinator gardens, meadow plantings, and large perennial beds. After flowering, ornamental seed pods add texture while the foliage continues to provide a clean shrub-like presence through summer. With full sun, well-drained soil, and patience during establishment, Solar Flare False Indigo becomes a dependable, low-maintenance anchor for sunny landscapes.

Distinctive Features

Solar Flare False Indigo produces tall spikes of pea-like flowers that begin sunny yellow and age to orange, often with subtle purple tones as the blooms mature. The plant forms a broad clump of blue-green to gray-green foliage that remains attractive after the bloom season has passed. Secondary flowering shoots may extend the display beyond the first flush, adding extra color in late spring to early summer. Like other Baptisia, it develops a deep root system, becomes drought tolerant once established, and is best left undisturbed after planting.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Grows best in full sun, with light shade tolerated but too much shade may reduce flowering and cause looser growth.
  • Soil: Prefers well-drained soil and adapts to poor to average garden soils, including sandy or loamy conditions.
  • Water: Water regularly during establishment, then provide only occasional supplemental water during extended drought once established.
  • USDA Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 4 to 9.
  • Mature Size: Typically reaches about 3 to 4 feet tall and 4 to 4.5 feet wide with age.
  • Habit: Forms a broad, upright to mounding herbaceous perennial with a dense, shrub-like clump.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use as a warm flowering focal point in sunny perennial borders, pollinator gardens, meadow-style plantings, or large mixed beds where its yellow-to-orange bloom display can stand out.
  • Pollinator Garden: Plant where bees, butterflies, and other pollinators can visit the flowers while the foliage continues to provide structure after bloom.
  • Mixed Border: Pair with ornamental grasses, coneflowers, salvia, alliums, catmint, and other sun-loving perennials for layered seasonal interest.
  • Mass Planting: Use in groups for a bold sweep of warm flower color and durable summer foliage in larger sunny beds or naturalistic plantings.
  • Low-Water Garden: Include in drought-tolerant designs where deep-rooted perennials are needed for long-term performance once established.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Watering: Water consistently during the first growing season to help establish deep roots, then reduce watering once the plant is established.
  • Mulching: Apply a light mulch layer around the root zone to conserve moisture and reduce weed competition while keeping mulch away from the crown.
  • Pruning: Cut stems back after frost or in early spring before new growth begins, depending on whether seed pods are left for winter interest.
  • Division: Avoid frequent dividing or transplanting because established plants develop deep roots and prefer to remain in place.
  • Fertilizing: Fertilize sparingly, if at all, since Baptisia usually performs well in average to lean soil and excessive fertility can encourage floppy growth.
  • Deer Resistance: Shows useful deer resistance in many landscapes, though browsing pressure can vary by location.

Why Choose Solar Flare False Indigo?

  • Color-Changing Flowers: Produces yellow blooms that age to orange with subtle purple tones for a warm, shifting late spring to early summer display.
  • Extended Bloom Potential: Can produce secondary flowering shoots that help lengthen the seasonal show.
  • Long-Lived Perennial: Establishes into a durable clump that can provide years of structure and seasonal color with minimal care.
  • Drought Tolerance: Handles dry periods well once established because of its deep root system.
  • Pollinator Value: Supports pollinators while adding native-style character to meadow gardens, borders, and naturalistic plantings.

Solar Flare False Indigo is an excellent choice for gardeners who want a durable perennial with warm flower color, strong structure, and low-maintenance performance. Its yellow-to-orange bloom spikes, blue-green foliage, ornamental seed pods, and drought tolerance make it a standout option for sunny borders, pollinator gardens, meadow plantings, and large mixed perennial beds.

Great Replacement Cabin Air Filters for my 2008 Honda Civic
Size: 2Pcs, Size: 2Pcs
Item Reviewed: CF10134 Cabin Air Filter with Activated Carbon Replacement for CP134, Fit for Honda Accord/Civic/Odyssey/CR-V and Acura MDX/TSX/TLX/RDX/Ridgeline (2 pack) ℹ️ Summary I picked these up because I needed some replacement cabin air filters for my 2008 Honda Civic. These seem like decent quality and they were a perfect fit in my car. For $15 at time of order for two air filters it was a solid deal that I can glad recommend to others. I hate writing short reviews, but there’s not much else to say about these. Here is how I rate items: 5 ⭐️ = Completely exceeds expectations. 4 ⭐️ = Works well with minor concerns. 3 ⭐️ = Does the job, nothing special. 2 ⭐️ = Some things work, but lots of issues. 1 ⭐️ = Didn’t work well, not worth it.

Good fit for Acura MDX
Size: 8.8" x 9.3" x 1.1"
This is an air cabin filter that will fit many cars, and in my case a 2019 MDX. Since this kind of filter is not doing anything critical like keeping dirt out of an engine, I shop around for non-OEM filters for something that strikes a balance between price versus performance. This filter just filters out dust in a car cabin, and when we’re not in our cars, we don’t have the benefit of an air filter when we are walking around outdoors. At a fraction of the price of an Acura filter, this filter seems to strike that balance. The filter media looks sturdy and is embedded with charcoal to help absorb odors. Installation is very straightforward in my MDX, and similar in most cars. There is a compartment door inside the glovebox that first must be removed before changing the filter. Pay attention to the direction flow arrow that shows which way the filter should be installed. Overall I am satisfied with this filter. It is inexpensive, fits perfectly, and seems to do the job just fine. It is definitely worth trying if you are trying to save money.

Fits great in my '08 Accord LX and my '19 Accord Sport 2.0t. They filter air well and are easy to install like any cabin air filter in a Honda. I am pleased. Good value for the price.

Fit my 2014 Odyssey TE
Size: 8.8" x 9.3" x 1.1"
Comes with printed instructions for those who haven't changed it before. Here is the specific use case from my van. On my 2014 TE its easy to access behind the glove box, open to usual full open then just push the left and right sides in to allow the glove box to come fully out. It may pop off of the mounts, don't panic it snaps right back on. Then look for the little rectangular panel with two small levers on either side. on the black plastic under the dash that you can now see and access. Press the levers and pull towards you, doing a bit of a wiggle to get it out. Its tight, but it will come out with having to break it. Don't gorilla hands it, it will break. There is a directional arrow on the filter, which you have to remove from the wrapper before installing. Yes, someone *will* forget that. Reassembly the reverse of removal. Check that video sharing site online if you need visual instructions.
