The beautiful and fragrant Star Jasmine Bush is the perfect addition to any landscape. Trachelospermum jasminoides is a versatile shrub for those looking to add beauty and charm to their outdoor space. Star Jasmine is also available as a staked vine or espalier trellis.
Grown naturally, Star Jasmine Bush is an evergreen woody vine with twining stems that can be pruned into a shrub. Profuse clusters of star-shaped, fragrant white flowers bloom from spring through fall. Prune regularly to maintain a tidy, small shrub that looks best along walkways or borders. Prune less for a natural, trailing appearance that's perfect for spilling over raised beds, walls, or containers. Plant near a patio or entryway to enjoy its delightful fragrance.
What’s the difference between Asian Jasmine and Star Jasmine?
- Asian Jasmine is lower-growing, more shade-tolerant, spreads outward, and is better suited as a dense groundcover.
- Star Jasmine is an upright climber and is better suited as a bush, staked vine, or espalier trellis.
- Asian Jasmine has smaller, darker leaves with noticeable leaf veins compared to Star Jasmine.
- Asian Jasmine’s flowers are white with a tint of yellow, darker yellow centers, and smaller than Star Jasmine.
- Asian Jasmine does not bloom as much as Star Jasmine.
Other facts:
- Trachelospermum is a member of the Apocynaceae family (Dogbanes & Milkweeds) and will exude a sticky white sap if cut.
- Asian jasmine and Star jasmine, while not true jasmines like Jasminum polyanthum (Oleaceae family), their fragrance is similar.
