When 'Limelight' hydrangea was introduced to North America from the Netherlands, it changed the way people thought about what had formerly been known as "peegee" hydrangeas. So much so that now, nearly all varieties of Hydrangea paniculata are known as 'Limelight' hydrangeas! Fast growing, extremely floriferous, and characterized by big, lush green blooms, it puts on a display that you will look forward to every year, year after year. Whether you have room for just a single 'Limelight' hydrangea or plant an epic flowering hedge, you'll be glad it's part of your landscape.

What makes 'Limelight' different from other panicle hydrangeas:

  • Flowers start green, turn white, then go back to green before turning pink/burgundy in autumn.
  • 'Limelight' is the most heat-tolerant of all panicle hydrangeas, growing well even in USDA zone 9.

Details:
Name: Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight' pp#12,874, cbr#2319

Height x width: 6-8' x 6-8'

Hardiness: USDA zones 3-9
Light: Full to part sun
Soil: Any well-drained soil will do. Some drought tolerance on established plants.
Pruning: Blooms on New Wood: prune back by one-third in late winter/early spring for better habit and a slight improvement in stem strength.
Water: Average water needs. Does not tolerate wet conditions.
Fertilizer: Fertilize once in early spring with a rose fertilizer if desired.
Bloom time: Mid-late summer. 'Limelight' is one of the later-blooming panicle hydrangeas, and can bloom quite late in cooler climates. Limelight Prime hydrangea blooms much earlier, if you're looking for similar features and a longer display.
Bloom color: Flowers start green, open to a creamy white, then go to green again. The green color persists through late summer/early autumn; flowers then turn hues of pink, red, and burgundy. The color the blooms turn is a genetic trait that develops with the natural aging of the cells in the florets, and is not influenced by any condition in the soil, like pH level. You can’t change panicle hydrangeas’ color by treating with aluminum sulfate or planting in acidic soil – they will always stay in the pink/red range.
Uses: 'Limelight' hydrangea is a fantastic choice for a flowering hedge, providing seasonal privacy as well as beauty. It's equally effective on its own, however, as a stunning specimen plant, as part of a garden or landscape, or even in a large container.

My dog loves it!
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 1)
This crunch ball was a Christmas gift for my 65lbs fur baby. It’s now mid April and he still loves it. He loves running after it and chomping down on it. It is still in good shape despite all the chomping it’s gotta . I highly recommend. He goes back to this toy agin and again! Great buy.

Our first babies favorite and longest lasting ball yet and he is fixing to be 7.

Toughest ball we have found yet. Our doberman loves Chuckit! Balls especially the crunch one. He spreads all the balls and toys we have bought but these lasted the longest. The crunch and the glow in the dark are usually his pick but he has several different choices.

Bouncy, not hard, and good value.
Style: Fetch Balls (Pack of 10), Size: 2.5 inch
Great balls for the ball launcher and not rockhard like some of the solid rubber balls. These have great bounce, and because of the two holes, they make a fun whistling noise as they fly through the air. My dogs love them and they are a good value. By the way, if you throw them too hard, they will go through chain-link and no climb fence because they squish a bit!

Excellent dog balls — safe design and very durable
Style: Fetch Balls (Pack of 3), Size: 2.5 inch
These fetch balls from Amazon Basics are fantastic, and my dog absolutely loves them. One of the biggest reasons I prefer these over other brands is the hole that runs through the center of the ball. This is a very important safety feature: if a dog were to accidentally get the ball stuck in the back of the throat, the hole allows air to pass through. That small detail could literally make a life-saving difference. Aside from the safety benefit, they bounce well, are easy to clean, and hold up to a lot of playtime. They’re firm but not rock-hard, and my dog goes crazy for them. Great value, great quality, and a thoughtful design. Highly recommended for dog owners who want a safer alternative to standard solid rubber balls.

Great ball for heavy chewers
Style: Assorted Balls (Pack of 3), Size: 2.5 inch
Great toy for my Doberman. She chews through tennis balls in about 15 minutes but these are very durable. She likes to chase them but also just chew on them.
