How Does Pyrazosulfuron Ethyl Work?
Pyrazosulfuron ethyl is an ALS (Acetolactate Synthase) inhibitor. After spraying, the molecule is absorbed by both leaves and roots of the weed and moves systemically through the plant.
Inside the weed, it blocks the ALS enzyme, which is responsible for producing branched-chain amino acids (valine, leucine, isoleucine) essential building blocks for plant growth. Without these amino acids, cell division stops.
Visible symptoms appear within 3–7 days: growth stops, leaves turn yellow/reddish, and weeds die completely within 15–20 days.
Because the paddy crop metabolises pyrazosulfuron ethyl rapidly, transplanted rice remains unaffected making it a true selective herbicide for paddy.
When & How to Spray Pyrazosulfuron Ethyl 10 WP
- Timing: 8–12 days after transplanting (DAT). Weeds should be at 2–4 leaf stage.
- Field prep: Drain excess water, keep 2–5 cm standing water in field.
- Mixing: Dissolve 80 g in a small quantity of water first, then add to a 200 L spray tank.
- Spray: Use a flat-fan nozzle. Cover the field uniformly. Avoid spraying in strong wind or rain.
- After spray: Do not drain the water for 3–5 days. Re-irrigate normally after that.
