To be suitable for growing plants, coco peat must be aged in order to balance the pH level, since fresh coco peat is acidic in nature. The longer it is aged, the more it becomes beneficial for plants.
Coco peat, by itself, offers limited nutrients to plants, unlike regular garden soil. However, as a soil-less grow medium, its spongy texture provides increased moisture retention, improved drainage and better aeration - all needed by plants.
How to use Coco Peat
As soil amendment, mix coco peat with soil to improve texture at 50:50 ratio. Alternatively, coco peat can be used directly as a soil substitute, but add compost or vermicast to provide the plant nourishment.
