The Anthurium andraeanum 'Success Red', or Red Flamingo Flower, is a tropical flowering plant native to the humid forests of Central and South America. Its bright red heart-shaped spathes, held on long upright stems above shiny dark green foliage, bring a vivid and warm color that lasts for several months. Each spathe can remain decorative for 2 to 3 months, and flowering can renew all year round. H43 cm | Pot Ø14 cm.

Discover in our complete Anthurium collection.

Which Anthurium variety to choose?

The Anthurium genus comes in a wide variety of colors and foliage:

  • Anthurium 'Success Red' (this plant) — bright red spathes, generous and long-lasting flowering. The most classic and warm.
  • Anthurium White — elegant white spathes. The most refined and understated.
  • Anthurium Black Love — dark purple almost black spathes. The most dramatic.
  • Anthurium Sweet Dream — soft pink spathes. The most romantic.
  • Anthurium Calon — original bicolor spathes. The most unique.
  • Anthurium Clarinervium — spectacular velvety veined foliage, collector’s plant. The most graphic.

Exposure & placement

  • Ideal exposure: bright indirect light — near a window without direct sun.
  • Avoid: direct sunlight that burns the spathes and foliage, too deep shade that stops flowering.
  • Temperature: 18–27 °C, without sudden changes.
  • Humidity: 60-80% recommended — mist regularly.

The brighter the light (without direct sun), the more abundant and renewed the flowering. Check our light and humidity guide to find the right spot.

Watering & care

  • Watering: moderate — let the top 2-3 cm of substrate dry out between waterings.
  • Frequency: about once a week in spring-summer, reduced in winter.
  • Water: preferably non-limestone water.
  • Drainage: pot must have drainage holes — very well-draining substrate.
  • Humidity: regularly mist the foliage.
  • Fertilizer: diluted flowering plant fertilizer, every 2-4 weeks in spring-summer.
  • Cleaning: wipe the large shiny leaves with a damp cloth.

Remove faded spathes at the base to encourage new blooms. Check out our complete watering guide to adjust the frequency.

Decor ideas & plant pairings

Its bright red spathes create an immediate colorful focal point — a plant that draws all eyes and instantly warms up a space.

  • Solo: in a matte white or black ceramic decorative pot, its red spathes stand out boldly — a very effective color contrast.
  • In arrangement: pair it with a Monstera deliciosa or a Calathea Medallion for a lush tropical composition where the red of the Anthurium creates a strong color accent.
  • As a gift: its long-lasting flowering makes it an ideal plant gift — much longer-lasting than a bouquet of cut flowers. Find more ideas in our selection of plant gifts.

Verdeia tips

  • High humidity essential — mist regularly or place a humidifier nearby. Too dry air stops flowering and browns leaf tips.
  • Remove faded spathes at the base — cut the flower stem at its base as soon as the spathe ages to encourage new flower production.
  • Repot every 2 years — in spring using a light, airy substrate with bark and perlite. See our repotting guide for proper steps.

Super fun, my dog loves it!
Color: Hambone Super Chewer, Size: M/L
I adopted a Feist/Pit mix and this was the first toy I got him for just him. He went nuts for it! He’s a destructive pup so ripping the soft “skin” off of hambone really helped him release some pent up energy! Now he carries it around in the yard and just chews on it. If you have tiny treats, drop em in the nose holes and watch your pup go crazy trying to get them out!

Not for super chewers
Color: Hambone Super Chewer, Size: M/L
Had to take it away from my dog the same evening I gave it to him because a chunk came off. I did not want him to choke on the pieces.

A favorite for my boys!
Color: Hambone Super Chewer, Size: M/L
My dogs love this toy, it satisfied their need to rip up a toy and still allowed them to play long after the top layer was torn apart to enjoy! It bounces well and has still held up with my chewers, this is still one of my dogs favorite toys to play fetch with!

Great toy
Color: Hambone Super Chewer, Size: M/L
My dog loves this toy so much. He's not quite so aggressive with his chewing, now that he's getting older, but this toy lasted through his younger years, and recently started to show signs of wear. He was so sad when I threw it out, that I had to replace it. Glad it still exists - we got the first one probably 5 years ago.

Great for heavy chewers
Color: Hambone Super Chewer, Size: M/L
Our dog is a hard core chewer! This toy is very durable. Even the covering has lasted. We assumed we would need to take the cover off right away but it’s still going after 3 months. It’s definitely chew resistant
