Description

Raphanus sativus "Japanese Minowase"

Long, pure white roots with crisp flesh and a mild flavor. Roots grow up to 12” long and average 3” wide. Excellent pickled, raw, or stir-fried.  Japanese Daikon Radish (Raphanus sativus var. longipinnatus) is a versatile, fast-growing root vegetable prized for its long, smooth white roots and crisp, mild flavor. Reaching 12–20 inches in length, Daikon is perfect for fresh eating, pickling, fermenting, or cooking in soups and stir-fries. Thriving in cool weather, this variety performs best in full sun and loose, well-draining soil, producing uniform roots with a tender, juicy texture. Known for both its culinary and cultural significance, Japanese Daikon Radish is a favorite in Asian cuisine and a rewarding addition to any home garden.

Planting Instructions

Approx seeds per order 100+

One of the easiest vegetables to grow, radishes have a short growing season and produce abundantly. They need cool weather and will not do well in the intense heat of the summer. Plant them early and often to have successive harvests. Plant them in the fall too, as soon as the weather begins to cool down.

Make sure they are getting full sun and are not shaded by other plants. If they are shaded, they will concentrate their energy on growing larger leaves and not big roots.

Start radishes outdoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost or as soon as the ground can be worked. Do not start inside or transplant. Rooted vegetables don't transplant well.

Sow seeds 1/8-1/4” deep and 1-4” apart in rows 12” apart. Do not crowd the plants or you will have small radishes.

Weed carefully as roots are fragile while young and easily pulled up. Thin seedlings if they are crowded so each one has at least 1-3” of growing space (varieties will vary on space needs).

Made well. Precise control pouring spout. Stainless steel, not just coated.
Love this little pitcher. It holds up to 12 oz. It's stainless steel, not just coated, and a decent weight. I love the design with the precise control of the eagles beak spout, but I still can't do the "art" very well. The etched numbers inside make a huge difference between making a Cappacino or Combacha as the difference to a lot of these coffee drinks has to do with how much frothed milk you add to your shots of Espresso, so having the etched markings inside is fantastic! The markings are not actually dug/etched INTO the stainless steel. Feels smooth inside to run your fingers over the etchings. Although I've washed it a few times in top rack of dishwasher the etchings haven't faded, so I'm glad about that. The etchings are dark enough to be easily seen. Measure in ounces and ml. Hopefully they will not wear off somehow. That's why I gave it a four star. It's very comfortable to hold and pour.
