Summary: Known as the Buddha’s Palm, Alocasia cucullata features elegant heart-shaped leaves on tall stems, bringing peaceful tropical beauty and easy care to your indoor jungle.

- Large size (approx. 70 cm height) – perfect as a statement floor plant
- Elegant upright growth ideal for bright living rooms or offices

🌞 Light & Placement
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Tolerates some lower light conditions better than most Alocasias, but avoid direct midday sun to prevent leaf scorch.
💧 Water & Humidity
Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Appreciates moderate to high humidity (above 50%), but adapts well to typical indoor European humidity levels. Mist occasionally during dry winter months.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Prefers a rich, well-draining aroid mix with peat, perlite, and orchid bark for moisture retention and aeration. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh nutrients and support healthy growth.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Toxic to pets if ingested due to calcium oxalate crystals. Keep away from cats and dogs to avoid irritation or stomach upset.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Moderate-growing with sturdy stems that develop multiple offsets over time. Propagate via division of these offsets during repotting to expand your collection.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
Reduce watering slightly in winter when growth slows. Wipe leaves regularly to maintain their glossy appearance and support photosynthesis. Fertilise monthly during spring and summer with a diluted balanced fertiliser for strong, healthy growth.
🐛 Common Issues
Generally hardy, but may attract spider mites or thrips in low humidity. Yellowing leaves often indicate overwatering or poor drainage. Inspect regularly and adjust care conditions as needed.
🧬 Botanical Background
Alocasia cucullata, also known as Buddha’s Palm, is native to Southeast Asia and admired for its elegant, lush foliage and upright, space-saving growth. It is a favourite among European plant lovers seeking easy-care tropical beauty with cultural significance.
