🌵 Totem Pole Cactus

(Lophocereus schottii var. monstrosus)

Spineless • Sculptural • One-of-a-Kind

The Totem Pole Cactus is one of the most distinctive cacti you can grow. Native to Baja California, this spineless, monstrose form of the Senita cactus features knobby, twisting columns that look more like modern art than a plant.

No two Totem Pole cacti grow the same—each one develops its own unique curves, bumps, and arms, making it a true living sculpture for your landscape, patio, or home.

🌵 Choose Your Variety

Totem Pole “Major”

• Thicker columns
• More pronounced knobs and bumps
• Bold, sculptural presence

Totem Pole “Minor”

• Thinner, wavier columns
• Faster growth rate
• Quicker arm development

Both varieties share the same spineless, sculptural character.

🌱 Growth Habit & Size

• Twisted, contorted columnar growth
• Irregular ribs and knobby texture
• Mature plants reach several feet tall
• Growth pattern is unpredictable and unique

This cactus looks incredible as it matures—each year adds more character.

🌞 Climate & Care

• Thrives in warm, arid climates
Not cold hardy below 28°F
• In frost-prone areas, grow in containers and move indoors for winter
• Loves full sun and well-draining soil
• Extremely drought tolerant once established

🌿 Perfect For

Container Gardening – Patios, decks, balconies
💧 Xeriscaping – Low-water, desert-style landscapes
🏞️ Focal Points & Rock Gardens – Bold statement plant
🏠 Indoor / Outdoor Design – Bright rooms, sunrooms, modern spaces

Our dogs hurt their mouths chewing these bones
Color: Purple & Blue
I don't do a lot of reviews because I realize many are objective opinions. However, in this case I felt it was necessary to warn others. Our dogs are aggressive chewers. Their last rubber bones (not these) which we've purchased before, and recently purchased again, were destroyed quickly. Chunks of rubber came off the ends. Since those didn't hold up like they used to, I found these harder bones hoping they would last longer. They were able to gnaw into the hard plastic within a few minutes. This created sharp edges that cut their mouths. When I saw a bit of blood on the bones, I took them away from the dogs and threw them away. I wondered why they quit chewing on them after being so excited at first. Also, these are hard enough to damage a tooth.
