Rhipsalis Cereuscula - Coral Cactus | The Elegant Cascading Epiphytic Cactus

Few plants combine unusual texture, ease of cultivation, and long-term beauty as effortlessly as Rhipsalis cereuscula. Commonly known as the Coral Cactus, this fascinating epiphytic cactus originates from the tropical forests of South America, where it grows attached to tree branches rather than rooted in the ground like traditional desert cacti.

Unlike many cacti, Rhipsalis cereuscula thrives in conditions that resemble those preferred by orchids and other tropical epiphytes. Its countless slender cylindrical stems branch repeatedly into dense coral-like clusters, creating a soft, cascading appearance that becomes increasingly impressive with age. Whether displayed in a hanging basket, elevated planter, or among a collection of rare tropical plants, this species quickly becomes a conversation piece.

At TOMs FLOWer CLUB, Rhipsalis cereuscula is particularly appreciated for its graceful growth habit, reliability, and year-round ornamental value. It is one of those plants that looks attractive even when not in flower, making it a rewarding addition for both experienced collectors and newcomers to epiphytic plants.

Why This Plant Stands Out

  • Beautiful coral-like branching unlike most other cactus species
  • Elegant cascading growth ideal for hanging displays
  • An authentic epiphytic cactus from tropical South American forests
  • Easy to cultivate and highly adaptable indoors
  • Produces delicate white flowers on mature specimens
  • Excellent companion plant for orchid and tropical plant collections
  • Long-lived and increasingly attractive with age
  • Appreciated by collectors for its distinctive architecture and natural elegance
  • Slow, healthy cultivation for stronger roots and long-term vitality
  • Organically grown at TOMs FLOWer CLUB with quality before quantity

Collector Note

Among the many species within the genus Rhipsalis, Rhipsalis cereuscula is often regarded as one of the most attractive and approachable for cultivation. Collectors appreciate its distinctive branching pattern, which resembles miniature coral formations or underwater structures.

Unlike some rarer Rhipsalis species that can be slow or demanding, Rhipsalis cereuscula grows steadily under suitable conditions and quickly develops into a spectacular specimen. Its refined texture contrasts beautifully with broad-leaved tropical plants, orchids, aroids, hoyas, and other epiphytes.

For collectors seeking a plant that combines botanical interest with practical ease of care, Rhipsalis cereuscula remains one of the finest representatives of the epiphytic cactus world.

Care

Light:
Bright indirect light is ideal. Gentle morning or late afternoon sun is beneficial, while intense midday sun should be avoided.

Watering:
Allow the substrate to partially dry between waterings. Unlike desert cacti, Rhipsalis cereuscula appreciates more regular moisture but should never remain waterlogged.

Humidity:
Moderate to high humidity promotes vigorous growth, although the species adapts well to average indoor conditions.

Temperature:
Best grown between 15–28°C. Protect from frost and prolonged cold conditions.

Substrate:
A highly permeable organic substrate is essential. The species performs exceptionally well in mixes designed for epiphytic plants, combining aeration, moisture retention, and excellent drainage.

Maintenance:
Minimal maintenance is required. Occasional pruning can encourage denser branching and help maintain the desired shape.

Additional cultivation tips:
Treat this species more like an orchid or tropical epiphyte than a traditional cactus. Good air circulation, balanced moisture, and bright filtered light will reward you with healthy, vigorous growth.

The result is a robust, healthy plant that is prepared not only for immediate enjoyment but also for years of successful cultivation.

This one is a keeper…
Size: 36D, Color: Nude
Bra shopping is truly one of my least favorite things to do, and it is always so frustrating to me. Online bra shopping tends to be even worse, so I had little hope for this bra but took a chance anyway. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it! A true test for me is whether or not I notice I’m wearing it. I’ve worn it off and on for several days and I totally forget about it. Having nurses two babies and approaching my 40s, my girls need a lot of support and this bra delivered. I thankfully discovered years ago that if you have deflated mom boobs, an unlined cup is the best way to take what you have and give it shape. This one does just that. I have very mixed feelings on the lace though. On the one hand, it is sexy and feminine and I don’t find that in bras very much anymore (at least not ones that provide the kind of lift and support that I require). However, the lace is very noticeable through a shirt. I really can only wear this bra with a thick top or sweater. Otherwise, it’s just too noticeable and I’m not comfortable with that. Wearing a cami underneath a top helps slightly though. Overall, I’m glad I have this bra and I’ll be ordering another color. It feels well made, the material is nice, and it gives my bust a shapely (and youthful 😭) appearance. I wore it all day in 90+ heat at Magic Kingdom and it didn’t bother me at all, so it definitely qualifies as lightweight and comfortable in my book. I took a stab at a size and the 36D feels right. I *maybe* could have gotten a 34 but the 36 doesn’t feel loose on the tightest loops. On occasion, depending on the brand, I can be either a D or DD. I think this is worth trying and looks more expensive than it really is!

Gorgeous Bra, But My Chest Declined the Opportunity
Size: 40C, Color: Black, Size: 40C, Color: Black
This bra is genuinely beautiful and very well made. The fabric, stitching, and overall construction felt much more expensive than I expected. Unfortunately, my body once again reminded me that I am apparently not built according to standard human engineering specs. Every few years I convince myself, “Surely this time I am a normal-sized woman who can wear regular bras.” Then I order one designed for actual flesh-bearing individuals and reality humbles me immediately. The cups stood there optimistically waiting to be filled while my chest contributed little to the project. The straps also kept sliding off my narrow shoulders like they were trying to escape the situation entirely. None of this is the bra’s fault. The fabric is soft, silky, and looks like money. It's just as pretty as the photos. The straps appear as though they could support a lot for a long time. The bra did its job. My body simply refused to participate. If you have average proportions and shoulders that can support standard straps, this is probably a fantastic purchase. I, however, must return to my specialized tiny-person undergarments and accept my fate.

I really like this bra, but...
The bra fir great and I wish I could keep it. The big downfall is the lace and the middle seam. Both show thruogh any shirt material so you can't ear it under anything without the bra showing through as bumpy. I'm returing it for that reason along.
