Lithops, also known as Living Rocks, or Pebble Plants is a genus of succulents containing about 40 species. They belong to the Ice Plant family and are native to many regions in Africa. This species of plant will require lots of direct sunlight to survive and flower. They are an intermediate plant and have very specific care needs. Be sure to read the Plant Care section carefully!

Fun Fact

“Lithops” is derived from two ancient Greek words “lithos” meaning “stone” and “ops” meaning “face”, referring to the appearance of the plant.

Care Tips:

- Plant in well-draining, porous succulent soil.

- A pot with a drainage hole is essential

- Provide lots of direct sunlight. Southern exposure is ideal and grow lights are recommended in the fall and winter months.

Your success with Lithops will depend greatly on your understanding of their growth cycles:

At the beginning of Spring, once the plants have shed their old skins, water thoroughly to help plump them up and kick start their growing season. This is also the best time to do any repotting or maintenance such as removing dry old leaves or trimming roots.

In their native home environments (Africa), Lithops can go through a secondary dormancy period in the summer when there is an extreme heatwave. Tiny sips of water can be given in the summer only when the soil is bone-dry and the plant starts to look dehydrated/shrivelled - but just enough water so that the plant plumps back up.

They will flower near the end of summer/beginning of fall. Cease watering after they flower!

Over the winter months, do not water, no matter how tempting it may be! This is their main dormancy period. During this time the plant will split in half and a new plant (sometimes two!) will emerge from the centre. The new plant(s) will survive off the remaining nutrients stored in the older plant. If you water during this time, it may confuse the plant, stunting its growth and potentially leading to its demise.

Start the watering cycle over in the spring once the old leaves have completely dried up.

My dog loves bam-bones
Size: 5.25 inch (Pack of 1)
I wasn’t sure how my dog would like this since it’s stick shaped instead of the typical Y or T shaped bones. She was apprehensive at first but eventually loved it. She’s on her second one now. They don’t last quite as long as the name-brand nylon bones but she loves them the same and they’re a better price.

Good product, except that dogs don’t seem interested.
Size: 5.25 inch (Pack of 1), Size: 5.25 inch (Pack of 1)
It’s a good side for 8-20lb dogs which are the size dogs I foster. So far none of my fosters have been interested in this particular toy. I’m not sure why. It seems like a quality product, that is not so hard that it will hurt teeth but, durable enough that it will last for moderate chewers. I appreciate that it had some texture for pups to work their paws and mouths around. Again, none of the dogs here have been interested yet but other than that, as far as I can tell the product is good. I’ll update if I ever get a foster that goes HAM for it.

Ok
Size: 5.25 inch (Pack of 1)
My pups not overly interested in it. If it had some texture it would be better. The price was right though, and it gives him some variety in his toys.
