It is fast growing and does well in subtropical and tropical areas. Unlike most other Licuala, it can take full sun and considerable coastal exposure.
  • Licuala spinosa is a small multi-trunked palm with divided fan shaped fronds and a slender trunk. It is quite cold tolerant and will grow outdoors if kept moist and protected from wind and afternoon sun, in a shady courtyard or under tree canopy.
  • It is common in cultivation and may reach 3-4 m height. Known as the spiny Licuala because the leafstalk are savagely armed with many tiny, pointed spines.
  • This dense, clumping palm with an arching form, possesses slender stems and divided fan leaves, with the leaf stalks holding tiny spikes.
  • This palm is a unique eye-catcher and a must for any collector of specialist palms.

Demons and Their Food
Format: Paperback
It is a truly fascinating story, interspersed with recipes of famous dishes. It is a tale of food, spices, and people. It is people who make the food all the more enticing, the people who grow and sell the spices, the cooks who spend hours and days preparing food. They give of their time and enhance the food with their passion for it. But there is an old demon in this story, and he is a cook too. He eats enormous amounts of food, because of people. He eats people because of the food. He hires a young delicious filmmaker to tell his story. Will the filmmaker become a meal for the demon? Has he come under the spell of the demon? Will he become a demon himself? What will happen to the demon? What of the people who are hunting him?
