The Cultivo Guarantee

Our Venus flytrap seeds are 100% authentic Dionaea muscipula seeds, guaranteed to grow genuine Venus flytraps - not cheap imitations or fake seeds from the internet. Every plant in our collection is hand-pollinated by us and each seed is harvested by our team, so we know exactly what it is and when it was collected. This ensures fresh, high-quality seeds with better germination rates and gives you the best possible chance of success.

Since these seeds are open-pollinated from our private, mixed giant forms collection, your plants may display a variety of exciting traits including larger trap sizes, different colours and unique growth patterns. Each seedling will be genetically unique and slightly different, making your growing experience even more rewarding.

While we can't guarantee 100% germination (as with any seed you buy anywhere), we provide you with proven methods and all the tools you need, plus one of the most important factors for success - fresh, high-quality seeds!

What to Expect When Growing Venus Flytraps from Seed

Germination time: 4-8 weeks under optimal conditions
Time to maturity: Approximately 5 years to reach flowering size
Difficulty: Beginner-friendly (patience required)

Growing Venus flytraps from seed is an incredibly rewarding long-term project. While germination happens relatively quickly for the carnivorous plant world, these plants grow slowly and take several years to reach their full size. Watching these incredible plants develop from seeds into tiny seedlings with adorable little traps and finally into full-sized, insect-catching marvels is an experience like no other - you'll witness every stage of their fascinating lifecycle.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Venus Flytrap Seed Starter Kit

How many seeds are in the Venus Flytrap Seed Starter Kit?

Each kit includes 12 Venus flytrap seeds, freshly harvested during South Africa's latest growing season. This gives you multiple chances for successful germination with authentic, hand-pollinated seeds.

Which type of Venus Flytrap seeds will I receive?

Your kit contains open-pollinated seeds from our private collection of large-growing cultivars. Your plants may display a variety of exciting traits including larger trap sizes, different colours and unique growth patterns as they mature. Each seedling will also be genetically unique, making your growing experience even more rewarding.

Does the kit come with instructions?

Yes! Every kit includes a detailed step-by-step instruction guide that walks you through the entire process - from setup to germination to ongoing care. We share the exact techniques we use to grow our own Venus flytraps from seed, giving you the best possible chance of success.

Should I sow all 12 seeds at once?

Yes! We recommend sowing all 12 seeds in the included container to maximise your chances of successful germination. Seeds germinate at different times, plantlets grow at different rates and not every seed will sprout (this is normal with anything you'll ever grow from seeds), so sowing them all together gives you the best odds of growing multiple Venus flytraps. Once they're established, you can separate them later.

Are these real Venus flytrap seeds?

Yes! All our Venus flytrap seeds are 100% authentic Dionaea muscipula seeds, hand-pollinated for quality and personally harvested from our private plant collection. We never sell seeds from the wild, fake seeds or cheap imports. Each seed we sell at Cultivo is freshly harvested from our latest growing season to ensure maximum viability.

Can you grow Venus flytraps in South Africa?

Absolutely! Venus flytraps grow very well in South Africa. They thrive in our climate and can be grown outdoors in many regions or on sunny patios. We're one of the few South African suppliers offering a range of authentic carnivorous plant seeds and we've helped hundreds of growers successfully cultivate these amazing plants in our local climate.

What's included in the instruction leaflet?

Our detailed instruction guide shares the exact techniques we use to grow our own Venus flytraps from seed - covering everything from setup to germination to ongoing care. It's designed to give you the best possible chance of success with clear, step-by-step guidance throughout your growing journey.

Good value and best of all - it works
This did the job I wanted it to. Expanded the ports when my laptop just ran out. No delay or ANY issue no matter what I plugged where and after a little figuring out where things went (not difficult) its performing very well. As far as value, its great. I always evaluate something by if I would purchase it again. Yes I would. if you need it, get it and set it up and move on with less worry about port capacity.

Good Multipurpose Hub, Some Limits on Power Draw
I use this with a Dell Latitude 7430 with a 65W charger, and it works fine as a docking hub. The only problem I've encountered is when rebooting, the boot will pause with a warning message to tell me that the laptop may encounter reduced performance because it isn't able to receive the full 65 watts. I don't get that warning if I'm not running the power supply through the hub. Otherwise, if I just use the hub as a port extender everything is fine. It has a compact design and is reasonably lightweight. It would be ideal for travel. Like my other Anker hubs, it's well constructed and doesn't feel cheap although it's good value for money.

I don't know how I ever lived without it.
I'm very happy with this device. My laptop doesn't have an ethernet port and only has one USB-C SuperSpeed port, so I bought an ethernet to USB-C cable to connect my ethernet switch to the Anker and into my laptop's USB-C port, and it works great. I don't need a fast internet connection for the things I do, so my service is only a 50mbps symmetrical up/down connection, and that's what I get even while transferring files from my external between other devices, charging my phone, and using composite devices. I bought the Anker 100W Compact and Foldable USB C Charger for it and it charges my S24 extremely fast. It's very well built, yet super lightweight. I love the sleek, slender design. It's the perfect size to easily slide into a pocket, store in a desk drawer, or keep handy in a laptop case or backpack. Using it is easy. Just plug it into your computer and plug your devices into it. Just make sure you have a power supply for it if you're charging or powering other devices, using external storage, or running anything else that taxes USB power. I have had ZERO connectivity issues with it — no random disconnect/reconnect blips, no failed transfers for huge amounts of data that have taken up to 45 minutes, no static his or crackle when my headset is running through it... no problems at all. It's actually kind of spooky now that I think about it... I can't recall a time I've ever had a similar device that didn't have some nuance that got under my skin, like a loose connection, random disconnections, having to reinstall the drivers all the time, or having to troubleshoot just to get it connected for the first time. The most stress I've put it through was with my keyboard connected, ethernet running through it, my S24 charging and transferring about ~20gb of pictures and videos to my 2T external HD at the same time that my laptop was transferring about ~500gb of media and documents to the HD, too, and I was surprised by how warm it DIDN'T get. My only complaint is trivial and unique to my situation — I wish output cord was longer. About six inches would do. My laptop sits up on an adjustable stand that clamps to my desk, and the end where the output cord is hangs a few inches off of my desk. This puts extra stress on the USB-C port and can wear it out faster or damage it. I haven't had a use for the HDMI port yet, but I eventually will. I use all of the other ports for my work and personal devices, though. These include: a 2tb external hard drive; a Poly Blackwire 3320 Series headset; a dongle for a wireless mouse/keyboard combo or a wired keyboard and a dongle for a wireless mouse; my Galaxy S24 charges and transfers files through it super fast; I have several thumb drives ranging from 20gb to 512gb that I regularly use; I recently bought an RCA/S Video-to-USB converter to digitize old home movies I plug into it, too.

Anker wins again.
Worked well for usb hub but hdmi was not reliable. Disappointed because usually Anker products are good quality. UPDATE: Anker voluntarily offered a refund so my faith in Anker has been fully restored.

Perfect with a MacBook
The Anker USB C Hub works great with my MacBook Air. I paired it with the Anker 100W MacBook charger which plugs directly into the USB C Hub so I only have to plug in one cable like a true docking station. My Apple MagSafe charger stays in my briefcase so I always have a charger when I'm away from my desk. I also plug in my external monitor and an external hard drive. I highly recommend this product!
