Golden Hawaiian Bamboo – Bambusa vulgaris ‘Vittata’

Golden Hawaiian Bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris ‘Vittata’) is one of the most striking tropical bamboo varieties, known for its bright golden-yellow culms accented with irregular green striping. The vibrant cane color and tall upright growth make it a dramatic focal point in the landscape.

This bamboo forms a large clumping grove with tall, strong culms and lush foliage. When planted in rows it can create a tall privacy screen, but it is also commonly used as a specimen plant where the colorful canes can be appreciated.

Like all bamboo we offer, Golden Hawaiian Bamboo grows in a clumping growth pattern. It expands gradually from the base rather than spreading aggressively through underground runners.

Growth Expectations

Growth rate varies depending on climate, watering, soil quality, and fertilization. In warm climates with proper care, Golden Hawaiian bamboo typically develops as follows:

Year Height Culm Diameter
Year 1 6–10 feet Up to ¾ inch
Year 2 12–20 feet Up to 1 inch
Year 3+ 30–40+ feet Up to 2 inches

Best Uses

  • Tall privacy screens and living fences
  • Tropical landscape focal points
  • Decorative bamboo groves
  • Specimen bamboo for large landscapes

Great Value for a ball my dog loves!
Color: S6-muti-color
I wish these ball were in the subscription program! My dog gets sooo excited by the new ball, but her interest in things lasts for a few days. She kills the squeak within 11minutes, but the squeaker stays in place rather than becoming a chocking or swallow hazard, and she still loves to chew it. Next, we must throw the ball approximately 723 times the first day, possibly 496 times on day 2, and just 3- 4 on day 3, at which point she will chase the ball before hollering "it's over here if you need it," while she checks on the chipmunk den. We currently have 17 of these balls in our yard (because we have given several leftovers to a less discriminating doodle next door). These balls hold up really well, get her extremely active for the first couple of days, and are a much cheaper than doggie daycare (after an active morning with a new ball, she is happy to chew on it and sleep much of the day). I always have these on hand!

Pieces chewed off
Color: white & green
My Aussiedoodle loves it. I throw it down the hallway, it bounces crazy, and he chases it. The only complaint is that he can't chew much of the ball part. So now I have to have it put away and brought out for special playtime.

Great ball!
Color: Ultra, Size: Large
Our puppy loves this ball. It has held up well so far, it’s about 2 weeks now of large breed pup play. It’s been outside for the last week, rain or shine, still in working order. Not as big as I thought it would be though. No squeak, bounces well. Thick rubber like material, that can be depressed when biting down.

Durable, even for a Great Dane!
Color: Ultra, Size: XXL
I've bought many tennis ball sized ChuckIt balls in the past (for medium sized dogs we've owned), so when we knew we were going to be babysitting our daughter's Great Dane, I bought a bigger one for her. The 4" is perfect for her! She plays catch with it, but also likes to gnaw on it. It holds up great!
