We direct-seeded the small seeds at the beginning of June but you can also start them indoors about 4 weeks before your last frost. In the fall monitor frequently the seed pods which turn brown and split as they mature. We picked the pods as they just started to split and hung them in mesh bags to avoid losing seed. Black sesame seeds are known for a more nutty flavor over tan varieties. Home-grown sesame seeds make a great special gift for the foodies in your life.
