Delicate, unusual and quietly striking, Dischidia nummularia — also known as the String of Nickels — is a trailing plant that brings a gentle sense of movement and softness to your home. With its round, coin-like leaves cascading on slender stems, this is a plant that’s easy to care for but full of character.

Size
Trailing length approx. W14–H40cm on arrival, with plenty of growth potential in the right conditions.

Native Habitat
Native to tropical forests across Southeast Asia and northern Australia, Dischidia nummularia is an epiphyte — meaning it grows naturally on trees, clinging to bark and soaking up dappled light and moisture from the air. It’s used to high humidity and indirect light, making it a perfect houseplant if you’re after something a bit different but still unfussy.

Styling at Home
This plant really shines in a hanging pot or mounted on a shelf where it can gently spill over the edge. Its rounded leaves bring a soft, graphic quality that works well against clean, modern interiors or in lush, jungle-like displays. It’s also an excellent choice for terrariums or as a trailing feature in a mixed plant collection.

Care Requirements
Dischidia nummularia is fairly low maintenance:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.

  • Water: Allow the top of the soil to dry out between waterings. As an epiphyte, it doesn’t like to stay soggy.

  • Humidity: Thrives in higher humidity but adapts well to most home environments.

  • Feeding: Feed monthly during spring and summer with our Organic Tropical Plant Food, specially formulated to support healthy growth.

Why Choose This Plant
If you're looking to add a trailing plant that’s a little off the beaten path, the String of Nickels is a wonderful choice. Easy-going yet visually striking, it’s ideal for those who love the unusual — or want to bring a bit of the forest canopy indoors.

Interesting Facts

  • Its common name, String of Nickels, comes from the shape and size of its round, flat leaves.

  • In the wild, it can often be found growing on tree trunks alongside orchids and ferns.

Very effective!
My daughter had horrible acne and this was the only thing that worked! We tried everything on the market. I highly suggest this if you have a teen with stubborn acne!

Great
This stuff is generally just great. My dermatologist recommended using at least I think she said a five or 8% and I feel like this is just like the perfect mixture with Trention to get your acne to go away, but I use it every time I shower and I feel like it really is a great defense against acne and oil

good
I’ve been using the CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Wash for a bit now, and it’s honestly just okay. It does help keep breakouts under control and feels gentle enough for daily use, but it can be a little drying at times. The texture is nice and creamy, and I like that it includes benzoyl peroxide and hyaluronic acid, so it’s effective without being too harsh. It’s not a miracle product, but it’s a solid option if you want a straightforward acne wash that does the job. Use 4% instead.

Definitely helps with acne
Cerave is a good brand for a lot of skin care products. I use their daily facial washes and now I bought this face and body acne wash. Mostly, I bought it because recently I had a zit on my forehead that was not going away with salicylic acid washes, so I decided to try benzoyl peroxide instead. With one use that zit dried up quick and disappeared in 2 days. I will say that I did let the product sit on my face for a minute before washing it off. I didn't notice any irritation on my skin or sensitivity. Benzoyl is underrated in my opinion. It's effective at getting rid of stubborn acne, more so than salicylic acid, but it can be drying so you must use moisturizer afterwards. The effectiveness also goes for body acne. Being a woman, I get those nasty painful hormonal acne break outs on my back sometimes and this helps a lot with getting rid of those. I like that it's slightly cheaper than Panoxyl and you don't need a large amount for it to work.
