It grows more slowly, and it matures between 20 and 35 feet tall with a spread of 15-25 feet. It is a male selection that is noted for its upright branches, reddish male flowers, and no fruit produced. The Sun Valley Maple has a narrower spread and can be planted in more restricted spaces. It may be smaller, but its fall colors are just as powerful, ranging from brilliant orange-reds to darker burgundy-reds. Full sun will bring out the full intensity of the fall colors of the Sun Valley Maple, but it also grows in partial shade. Easily grown in average, medium to wet, well-drained soil but prefers moist, slightly acid conditions; intolerant of alkaline soils. Very cold hardy and can be grown in USDA Zones 4-7.
