All the Details You Need to Know

The Story Behind This Tropical Beauty

The Philodendron Congo Variegated (also called 'Red Congo Variegated' or 'Green Congo Nuclear') is a modern horticultural hybrid prized for its self-heading habit. Unlike climbing Philodendrons, Congo cultivars grow outward and upward from a central base, creating a living sculpture perfect for indoor containers. Its bold variegation and lush, glossy leaves make it a rare and highly sought-after centerpiece.

How to Keep Yours Thriving (It’s Easier Than You Think)
  • Light: Bright, indirect light keeps variegation strong. Low light may cause reversion (loss of white/yellow). Avoid harsh direct sun.
  • Water: Water when the top 50% of soil is dry. Excellent drainage prevents root rot; overwatering is the main risk.
  • Humidity: Average home humidity is fine, but 50%+ helps prevent leaf edges from crisping. Group with other plants or use a humidifier for best results.
  • Soil: Use chunky, well-draining Aroid mix (potting soil, perlite, orchid bark/coco coir).
  • Temperature: 65-80°F (18-27°C), away from cold drafts.
  • Fertilizer: Monthly in spring/summer with balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength.

With consistent care, even beginners can enjoy its bold, tropical presence.

Quick Pest Tips

Occasionally, common Aroid pests may appear, especially in dry conditions. Inspect leaves and new growth regularly:

  • Spider Mites: Fine webbing and tiny speckling. Guide
  • Mealybugs: Cotton-like spots in leaf axils or stems. Guide
  • Thrips: Tiny, slender insects causing silver scarring. Guide (Placeholder)

Frequently Asked Questions by Plant Parents
  • Q: How often should I water my Congo Variegated?

A: Water when the top 50% of soil is dry, ensuring good drainage. Overwatering is the main concern.

  • Q: Can it survive in lower light conditions?

A: It tolerates moderate light, but bright, indirect light maintains strong variegation. Low light may cause reversion.

  • Q: Is this plant safe for pets?

A: Philodendrons are toxic if ingested. Keep out of reach of cats, dogs, and small children.

My dog loves it!
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 1)
This crunch ball was a Christmas gift for my 65lbs fur baby. It’s now mid April and he still loves it. He loves running after it and chomping down on it. It is still in good shape despite all the chomping it’s gotta . I highly recommend. He goes back to this toy agin and again! Great buy.

Our first babies favorite and longest lasting ball yet and he is fixing to be 7.

Toughest ball we have found yet. Our doberman loves Chuckit! Balls especially the crunch one. He spreads all the balls and toys we have bought but these lasted the longest. The crunch and the glow in the dark are usually his pick but he has several different choices.

Great
Size: Medium, Number of Items: 1
I need something that was soft for my three year old and this ball is super great, it not only is the right size but it also fits in his mouth just right. Although he is a super aggressive chewer, the ball toy hasn't been totally destroyed yet and it is easy on his gums. The ball is so durable that got two of these toys just for fun.

The best!
UPDATE: 08/05/2025 - This is still one of my dog's 2 fav training/play toys. A couple of notes: 1. This is not a chew toy. If your pup is chewing up the rope, that's on you. That being said, you can get 100' of the poly cord rope at Home Depot for like $4.98. You can make nearly 100 ropes out of 100'. How hard is it to replace the rope????? 2. My pup is a now 15 month old Malinois. His original balls, purchase in September 2024 are still in everyday, multiple times per day, play. I did get careless and leave one where he got it and chew the rope. Easily replaced. Nothing to fret over. Yes, that was on me! 3.The foam ball is virtually indestructible! Replace the rope! 4. I noticed the price for the yellow large went from $12 each to $24. THIS will cause me to go elsewhere if they doubled in price. I LOVE these balls but not that much. I noticed they have a new yellow ball that has a strap vs. a rope. I might try that if I need one, but I have 6 of these balls, 2 never used yet, 2 that are virtually new looking, and 2 that have been in play since september 2024. I don't think I'll be buying more any time soon, but if I do need more, I hope they haven't gone up to $24 each. One of my top, go-to training tools. Quality is great other than the shrink wrap around the string joint. It's junk but not essential. Great tug and fetch toy. Essential to teaching a good "out" command (2 are recommended for this).

Best dog ball
This is our go to dog toy for our German shepherd. its great for training in sports as well as outings at the beach, considering it floats! Never had him destroy one, so its extremely durable. I like that its a bright color so its easier to locate when i accidently let go of the rope too late and end up whipping it 20 ft into the woods. Easy to clean, all around just a great toy. Also love the large size as having a dog accidently lodge a ball into its throat is a real fear of mine, I do not have to worry about that with this toy. I should also mention the rope is a must, as touching a slobbery ball isn't the greatest feeling in the world and it puts your hands out of harms way. I will forever order these.
