The name "Cielo" (Spanish for "Sky") likely refers to its celestial blue and icy-white coloration. The leaves are often deeply spoon-shaped with noticeably wavy or ruffled margins, giving it the appearance of a sea creature or a blooming rose.
  
  Like most Echeverias, its ancestral roots are in the semi-arid, high-elevation regions of Mexico and Central America. However, 'Cielo' itself is a cultivated hybrid (cultivar) bred specifically for its dramatic size and ruffled texture.
  
  It produces bell-shaped flowers, typically in shades of coral, pink, or orange with yellow interiors.
