The Florida Special Pineapple (Ananas comosus) is a unique variety bred specifically to thrive in the warm, humid conditions of Florida and other subtropical regions. Known for its resilience and ability to tolerate the heat and occasional cold snaps of the state, this pineapple variety produces medium to large, sweet, golden-yellow fruits with a balanced blend of tangy and sweet flavors. Perfect for fresh eating, juicing, or incorporating into tropical dishes, the Florida Special Pineapple is a versatile and easy-to-grow addition to your garden or patio.

Distinctive Features, Uses, and Nutritional Value

Fruits: The Florida Special Pineapple is known for its vibrant, golden-yellow flesh, which has a sweet and mildly tangy flavor. The fruit is juicy and flavorful, making it ideal for fresh consumption, juicing, or as an ingredient in tropical recipes. Like other pineapples, it is rich in vitamin C, B vitamins, and manganese, which support immune function and energy production.

Foliage: The plant features long, spiny green leaves that form a striking rosette, giving it the classic pineapple appearance. The leaves are hardy and help the plant tolerate heat and fluctuating temperatures, which is ideal for gardeners in subtropical regions.

Growth Habit: Florida Special Pineapple is a compact and slow-growing plant, reaching about 2-3 feet in height and width. It is perfect for growing in garden beds or containers and can even thrive indoors with adequate sunlight.

Culinary and Ornamental Uses

The Florida Special Pineapple is a fantastic option for both edible and ornamental gardening. Its sweet, juicy fruit can be enjoyed fresh, used in smoothies, or incorporated into a variety of tropical dishes. The plant itself adds a bold, tropical look to the garden or patio, with its rosette of spiky leaves and attractive, compact form. It is ideal for small spaces, container growing, or as an exotic addition to an edible landscape.

Nice way to learn about a trip to D.C.
Format: Flexibound
I got this for my kids to read before we went to Washington D.C. The pages are colorful, illustrated, and have short bursts of interesting details about the various attractions available to tourists who are visiting. My kids were eager to find the places on our itinerary and read about them ahead of time. They learned what to expect and were sure not to miss the important aspects of our tours. This book is recommended for 9 to 12 year olds and I think that is the perfect range. There is just enough information to peak their interest and not so much that they get bored by reading a bunch of text. The Table of Contents wasn't that informative in finding specific places, but the index was. My kids preferred to leaf through the whole book and find what was interesting to them.

Not good for travel, picture book only
Format: Flexibound
This is a beautiful book with fantastic illustrations and an engaging color palette. It includes a good variety of historical background information and sightseeing locations. However, it is a better picture book for browsing only. It is not a good travel book for kids to plan their own adventures. Who has ever heard of a travel book without maps?! No maps, no directions, no coordinating subway/bus maps. The printing is exceptionally small, almost too small to read. The book should have been made larger to accommodate the text. The text is excellent, but it printed as if the publisher never expected the kid/parent to read it. On one hand, our family really enjoyed how engaging the book appeared, but we were disappointed in its quality as a travel book. It shouldn’t be marketed as a travel book, but a geography book series.

I loved the switch!
New Yorker Haley found herself on a remote Australian cattle station working as a Jillaroo. One of her roommates is veteran rancher Jenna who is to show her the ropes as part of the contract with this fully paid "switch!". They soon find out that Haley is the worst Jillaroo ever, but she tries very hard and never gives up. I loved all the Aussie terms and descriptions and felt comfortably immersed in the Outback experience! Cheyenne wrote a beautiful story that was serious, yet humorous, filled with very enjoyable characters. I also enjoyed the way in which she crafted their love story and the way in which Haley became a part of the ranch's community. Well done, Cheyenne. This book was totally enjoyable!
