Good for beginners? Yes. Chinese Evergreen is one of the most adaptable and forgiving houseplants available. First Diamond is particularly striking for a plant that asks so little in return.
Safe for cats and dogs? Chinese Evergreen is toxic to pets if ingested. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.
Light needs: Medium to bright indirect light keeps the white and green contrast most vivid. It tolerates lower light better than most variegated plants but the white patches may become less defined. Avoid direct sun which can scorch the bright white portions.
Care at a glance: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Feed monthly in spring and summer. Wipe leaves occasionally to keep them glossy. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F.
