The Variegated Rubber Plant (Ficus Tineke) features creamy green and white leaves with pink new growth. Easy to grow, air-purifying, and ideal for bright indoor spaces, this tropical houseplant adds bold color and texture to your home or office.

Boasting gorgeous variegated foliage that has green and white leaves with creamy white margins, the Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’ is one of the easiest houseplants to grow. In between the leaf variegation, dark pink veins will separate the green leaves into two halves. New growth emerges with pink tints that give the Tineke ficus a unique look.

Originating in southeast Asia, the Ficus Tineke Rubber tree can grow into a small bush if left unpruned with mature heights of 3-6 feet tall and 2-4 feet wide at maturity.

One of the leading characteristics of the Variegated Rubber Tree is its ability to filter and purify the air of formaldehyde. Perfect for any room in the home, office, bedroom, bathroom, or sunroom – the Ficus Tineke plant adds a burst of color and greenery to spruce up your decor.

Variegated Ficus Tineke Care

Rubber plant care is extremely easy! Follow these simple tips to keep your variegated rubber tree happy and healthy. Rubber plant soil should be well draining with lots of nutrients. You can amend regular potting soil with perlite or peat to help aerate the potting mix. Repot your rubber plant every few years as it outgrows its current pot. You will know when it is time to repot the ficus when it becomes rootbound. Fertilize the rubber tree annually with a slow release fertilizer to help with healthy growth during the active growing season.  Be sure to choose a container with a drainage hole because it does not like root rot or waterlogged soil at the bottom of the pot.

Growers in USDA hardiness zones 10 and above can grow this plant outdoors all year long!

Variegated Rubber Plant Light Requirements

Ficus Tineke likes bright indirect light conditions for at least 3-6 hours a day. Direct sunlight is not encouraged as it will scorch or burn the leaves of this tender house plant. Filtered sunlight is best and the brighter the light the more the variegation will come out in the large leaves.

How Often to Water Rubber Plant

Water the Ficus Tineke whenever the soil feels dry to touch. This will of course be determined by the temperature and humidity in the room. Recommended room temperatures should not exceed 55-60 F. Avoid cold drafts from vents, fans, or windows. Normal room humidity is fine for the plant. It is best to keep the watering schedule to consistent. Rubber trees don’t like too much change. Water less in the winter months as the Rubber Ficus Tineke will go into a dormant phase with less growth and requires less water.

How to Prune Rubber Plant

Pruning Ficus Tineke is not required by any means! You can prune the top of the main branch once it reaches the desired height you would like. This will encourage more lateral growth. Remove any unwanted or dead branches to give the plant a fuller shape.

*Disclaimer about Ficus Tineke and cats: Rubber tree plants are mildly toxic to cats and other pets so it is best to avoid consumption at all times. Additionally, when making pruning cuts the branches may leak a white sap that causes mild skin irritation so prune cautiously.

Get the best sleep ever - soft, stay cool, don't wrinkle or pill after washing, and stay on.

Prior to buying this set of sheets, I tried just the pillow cases. I had a more expensive set of Egyptian cotton sheets and pillow cases, but every night I had to flip the pillow because it was too warm even when the room was cool. I bought the pillow cases for both my husband and myself, and we both saw an immediate improvement in our Samsung watch sleep scores. The pillow cases were so soft and I no longer woke up during the night with my head being too warm. The sheets I had been using were supposed to be for thick mattresses, and fit at first. I have a 12 inch mattress, and after a few washings, these sheets wouldn't stay on one corner of the mattress. There was no way I could stretch it over all four corners. Since I was so happy with the pillow cases of this brand, I decided to buy the sheet set. As I normally do, I washed and dried the set before using them. The sheets are every bit as soft and comfortable as the pillow cases, and they were wrinkle free with absolutely no pilling after washing. Putting them on my 12 inch mattress was a breeze. They fit over all the corners and even tucked in on all sides. The sheets are every bit as soft and comfortable as the pillow cases I had bought previously. Since I put them on my bed when warm weather was coming, I put away some of the blankets and comforters I had on my bed for the winter. I found that these sheets, are not quite as warm as my previous heavier sheets. For me this is a good thing as I used to wake up in the night sweating with my PJ's stuck to me. When I pushed down the covers, I would be freezing because my PJ's were wet. Since my bedroom is usually cool, I put some of the blankets back on my bed, but now I don't wake up sweating. Now I can use my blankets without sweating and having to push them to the bottom of the bed during the night, and my sleep score, measured by my Samsung watch, is consistently 10 or more points higher than it was before using these sheets. If you tend to sleep warm, these sheets would be perfect for you. At this point, I very much prefer these sheets over the stiffer, heavier Egyptian cotton sheets that don't breath. I should also mention that I bought the burgundy color that is a true burgundy - not red. UPDATE 7/25/22: I have been using these sheets for almost 1 1/2 years, and they have been washed and dried multiple times. They still look and feel as good as the first time I used them. They have not pilled or shrunk, and still fit on my bed as well as they did when they were new. Although I bought the set for a double bed, the pillow cases are large enough to fit the queen sized pillows I have, and are long enough the enveloping flap on the ends of them is really not needed. I still love this set of sheets, and will likely buy another set. UPDATE 08/10/23: I have been using this set of sheets for about 2 1/2 years, I and I still love them. I have been using only this one set of sheets. I take them off my bed, machine wash and dry them, and put them back on. They have not shrunk, pilled, or faded, and look as good as the day I bought them. I like these so much better than cotton sheets I have had in the past, including Egyptian cotton. They are so soft, not stiff at all. I decided to buy another set in case they stop selling them and thought I would update my review while I was here. I hope this review was helpful for you. I will update my review if my opinion changes.
