Bring the timeless beauty of ancient Greek architecture to your garden with the Spiny Bear’s Breeches, botanically known as Acanthus spinosus. Famous for being the inspiration behind the ornate carvings on Corinthian column capitals, this perennial is a true "designer plant." It offers a rare combination of structural drama and rugged reliability that makes it a must-have for the back of the border or as a standalone focal point.

Dramatic Architectural Foliage

The true star of the show is the foliage. Acanthus spinosus (also known as Spiny Acanthus) produces a mounded base of large, deeply lobed leaves that can reach up to 24 inches long. These leaves are a glossy, dark green and feature a sharp, thistle-like spine at each tip, giving the plant a fierce yet sophisticated texture. The leathery leaves remain upright and lush throughout the heat of summer, providing a consistent green backdrop for other flowering perennials.

Striking Summer Blooms

In early summer, the plant transforms as tall, sturdy flower spikes rise 3 to 4 feet above the foliage. These spikes are adorned with hooded, trumpet-shaped flowers in a sophisticated color palette of crisp white and mauve-purple. The bi-color effect is mesmerizing, and the spikes make excellent additions to cut flower arrangements, adding height and an "Old World" feel to any vase.

Versatile Landscape Specimen

In the landscape, Spiny Bear’s Breeches is a high-impact choice for cottage gardens, formal borders, or "wilder" naturalized areas where its spiny leaves discourage deer. While it is a slow grower, it is exceptionally long-lived. Because it can be aggressive in loose, sandy soils, it is best utilized in heavier soils where its spread can be naturally contained. Whether used to anchor a corner or to line a fence, this plant commands attention with its bold silhouette and historic charm.

Needs to outgas for a day or two and then its great.
Size: Queen (Mid Loft), Number of Items: 1
Needs to outgas for a couple days, ideally outside on a clothes line. Having said that its the first pillow out of a half dozen Ive bought in the last 18 mos that I can sleep on. Sleeping much better and longer now. Latex foam is the only pillow for me. I swear I searched on here a year or so ago and could not find one.

Goldilocks pillow
Size: Queen (Mid Loft), Number of Items: 1
I tried 5 different latex pillows, 2 from this brand. Most had to much loft and were too firm. This brand has one called extra soft that was comfortable but a little too soft. BUT, I could tell the latex was better so I tried this one. It strikes the perfect balance of support and is not too firm. Compared to all the other brands I would call this one soft/medium as all others "medium" were pretty firm. This one is just right!

Perfect supportive soft pillow

The perfect pillow that is hypoallergenic. It’s soft but your head doesn’t sink through. Supportive and soft at the same time. Have bought more pillows.

Very firm pillow
Size: Queen (Mid Loft), Number of Items: 1
I'm not sure I received the same pillow as advertised. The pillows I received are extremely firm. I would not classify it as medium. It was also not covered by a cotton case. it had a very sheer gauze like material covering the latex.

Super springy and comfy!

I’ve been looking for a pillow that offers support but is soft and cushy. I had never tried a latex pillow before, and I was skeptical because I heard it could be hard, but I decided to give it a try. I tried a memory foam and it was waaaaay too hard to be comfortable. This pillow retains its shape, is really soft and plushy, and works great for back or side sleeping. It had a slight smell (not unpleasant though) when we first unboxed it, but it was gone by day 2. The pillow also sprang up immediately on unwrapping it. After a few days it seemed a little bit bigger, but it didn’t really need any time to air out/fluff up, it was basically ready straight out of the box. I’m often picky about pillows because I get headaches from sleeping on my neck in the wrong way, but this one is great and I haven’t had a problem at all. My hubby likes it too :) it’s the favorite house pillow now.
