Product Information

Japanese Millet Seed is commonly used for feeding ducks, as this millet will grow in flooded soils or standing water. Japanese millet is a tall, medium stalked millet that has a 65-90 day life span. Japanese millet is great for dove fields, duck ponds, deer feed, pheasant feed, cover crops, bird seed, erosion control and much more.

Japanese millet is an exceptional wildlife plant. It is a choice duck food, and is eaten by 17 species of northeastern waterfowl. This food is also used by five upland game birds and many non-game birds, such as sparrows, finches, and cardinals. Leaves and seed-heads are eaten by rabbits and muskrats. As an erosion control plant it is used as a quick growing companion crop with perennial grasses and legumes and is especially suited to wet sites.

Japanese Millet, more commonly referred to as "billion-dollar grass," is an introduced annual. It has coarse leaves and varies from 1 to 5 ft. in height, depending on available moisture and fertility. The seed-head is a compact panicle-type inflorescence four to eight in. long, purplish in color, with awnless seeds. Billion-dollar grass produces a much heavier seed yield than the wild species. There are approximately 155,000 seeds per lb.

Japanese millet is well suited for areas with wet conditions. With a tolerance for wet and muddy soil conditions while growing, japanese millet is able to be flooded while growing as long as its leaves remain above water. After maturity is reached, a japanese millet plot is able to be flooded and used as a duck pond due to its tolerance for wetness. This tolerance for wetter conditions also makes japanese millet a strong nurse crop to protect slower growing, more tender legumes.

Japanese Millet was previously a major source of sustenance in Japan, Korea, China, and India, and remains a smaller crop in those regions to this day. It has slowly lost popularity for food purposes as better varieties of rice have been cultivated to withstand colder temperatures, which was previously Japanese Millet's main claim to fame. Still, the crop remains popular as a source of food for all varieties of birds!

Japanese millet duck food plots should be planted before the rainy season allowing the plant to sprout and begin growing before the standing water comes in. This millet can handle standing water if the young plant doesn't become completely submerged. Japanese millet is most successful when planted on prepared soil, although japanese millet will germinate and grow just about anywhere. For duck food plots, plant the japanese millet early in the summer (June-July) depending on the start date of your duck season. Japanese millet seed heads will hold on longer than most millet varieties, even in standing water. The seed will slowly drop out of the seed head feeding the ducks over time.

Japanese millet planted for dove fields should be planted at 5 to 10 lbs. per acre spacing out the plants. By spacing the plants out it will allow the birds to locate the seed much easier after the plants are mowed or harvested. Planting japanese millet too thick will decrease the plants seed production and create an abundance of plant material preventing the birds from locating the seed after mowing and harvesting. It may seem like a small amount for a entire acre but 5 lbs. planted properly will completely cover the soil and provide plenty of seed for your birds.

Seed may be drilled or broadcast and incorporated to a one inch depth on upland sites. In wetland areas, draw down water levels and broadcast seed on top of wet ground. Seeding rate for pure stands is 20 lbs./acre when drilled and 25-30 lbs./acre if broadcast. In a mixture reduce rate to 8-12 lbs./acre. Planting is recommended after the last killing frost in the spring. The seeding date may be timed to synchronize the maturity date of seed with the fall migration of specific migratory birds.

As an upland food source, japanese millet should be planted in pure stands as a field crop. For waterfowl, wetland areas planted in the spring should not be reflooded until the plants are at least six inches tall. During the migratory season, it is best to wait to flood until the crop is 12-18 in. Japanese Millet should be replanted annually to ensure a healthy growth.

Fabulously bizarre and effective
These silicone socks have to be the strangest item I have ever ordered from Amazon. However strange they are, I was pleasantly surprised with them. My order came with two pairs, and I took one pair out to wash before use. I laughed at handling them then because they were a cross between hospital socks and leftover mannequin skin…trippy. The socks dried fast, so I put on foot lotion and put the socks on. The socks are beige skin tones that cover the entire foot up to the ankle, basically booties. The silicone is very soft and makes putting on and taking off the socks easy. They are also surprisingly easy to walk around in because the bottoms have grips, again, like hospital socks. I walked on tile, hardwood, and carpet with no slipping. The booties also stayed in place with no issues. I was concerned my feet would sweat, but that didn't happen. I was able to wear them for 3 hours without sweaty feet. When I took them off, my feet were a lot more soft than before or if I had used regular socks. For reference, my feet are not terrible, but the skin around my toes is dry and peeling from my picking(gross, I know). The socks I got are a size large, which worried me because they are big, but the site said for my shoe size (9) that's what I should order, and they were right. They are the perfect size and stretchy for room. I can't believe how cool and well-thought-out these socks are, on top of working. Honestly, these are among the top 20 favorite items I've ordered from Amazon. They may look incredibly strange, and they are, but they work wonders.

Simple, durable, and a great buy for active dogs. 🐕🎾
Size: 3 PCS, Size: 3 PCS
These are exactly what I look for in a simple dog toy. The balls are made from a durable rubber material that feels sturdy enough for regular play, while still having enough give to be safe and comfortable for dogs to carry in their mouths. They bounce well, are easy to throw, and have held up nicely during play sessions. I also like the bright colors. The orange, blue, and yellow make them easy to spot in grass, at the park, or in the backyard, which means less time searching and more time playing. The textured surface gives dogs something easy to grip, and the size works well for medium to larger dogs. They feel much more substantial than the bargain-bin tennis balls that seem to fall apart after a few outings. Perhaps the best part is the value. For the price, getting three durable rubber balls is a great deal. Dog toys can get expensive quickly, and this set provides a lot of entertainment without costing much. Overall, these are durable, colorful, fun, and appear safe for everyday play. Combined with the very reasonable price point, they represent an excellent value for dog owners.

Really rough and tough and able to endure some pretty gnarly chewing!
Size: 3 PCS
These are some really stout, durable, tuff balls that are designed to endure some pretty rough chewers! They don't have the best bounce capability. If you throw one down onto pavement, it's not going to bounce back to you the same way a tennis ball would. It's probably got about half the comeback as a tennis ball, so to get the same return you would have to throw it about twice as hard as you would a tennis ball. But the balls were not designed to bounce around, they were designed to throw to your dog and play fetch and be able to endure some pretty rough gnawing and chewing while your dog is returning the ball to you. I have a 30 lb westie, and these balls are pretty much the perfect size for his medium size chomper. He is able to pick the ball up and carry it around with great ease, he is able to catch it in the air with no problem. Now my little 12 lb chihuahua is not able to carry the ball around, his mouth is just too small too be able to pick the ball up. In my opinion the asking price for these balls is really fair and reasonable! I would absolutely recommend this product to my friends and family!!

Nice quality balls for heavy chewers that are easy to clean
Size: 3 PCS, Size: 3 PCS
Nice quality heavy duty balls for strong chewers. I love that these don't have those holes in them that so many balls do that collect grossness and dirt. These are solid and easy to clean. My 9 week old puppy can pick them up and carry them around from the side of her mouth. But the next door 5 year old Labrador is obsessed with them. But then again he is obsessed with balls in general. I just like that these seem to hold less gunk than the others we give him to play with frequently. And they seem to have help up to his chewing just fine. They are reasonably priced for a set of 3 and the colors are nice and visible in the grass which is important. I would be careful to pick them up before mowing the lawn because these are solid and somewhat heavy and I could definitely see a mower just slinging them through a window or off your siding. Overall a nice set of balls that are easy for a human to throw and fit the hand comfortably. They are easy to clean and they are apparently appreciated by the local retrieval expert next door.
