Herb Description

Also called "Indian Tobacco," Wild Tobacco, or Aztec Tobacco, this herb has different effects based on how much you use. In small amounts, it stimulates the respiratory system. In larger doses, it can calm the nervous system and may help with asthma and whooping cough. However, you must use caution, as taking too much can cause severe depression. This plant is very toxic because it contains high levels of nicotine if it is not fully harvested and dried. Do not eat it unless it has been dried properly.

 

The leaves are bitter, which makes this plant safe to grow as an ornamental. Most animals avoid chewing on it. Indian Tobacco can also serve as a natural pest control method. Its strong smell and nicotine can keep insects away, making it a good choice for organic gardening. It works against pests like aphids and beetles.

 

With its beautiful yellow flowers in mid-summer, this plant is an attractive addition to gardens. It is easy to care for and helps deter many insects due to the bitterness of its leaves.
