Allis-Chalmers 73 and 74 Series Planting Units Operator's Manual

This 108-page operator's manual is the original factory guide for the Allis-Chalmers 73 and 74 Series planting units, covering setup, operation, field service, and adjustment. Delivered as a searchable digital PDF so you can zoom in on diagrams and print only the pages you need in the shop or field.

About the Allis-Chalmers 73 and 74 Series Planting Units

Produced in the early to mid 1970s, the 73 and 74 Series were Allis-Chalmers' row-crop planting units designed for toolbar-mounted planter configurations. Both units shared the same core seed metering system — horizontal plate design with interchangeable seed plates — but differed in their depth control: the 74 unit used depth bands on the opener, while the 73 relied on a depth skid. That single difference made the 74 better suited to consistent-depth planting in worked ground, while the 73 was the simpler, more adaptable unit. Both were capable of planting corn, cotton, beets, and other small seed crops with the appropriate plate and hopper configuration.

These units were built during the same era Allis-Chalmers was pushing hard into planter monitor technology, and the manual reflects that — covering the AC-1 non-counting and AC-3 counting monitor systems, console wiring, and sensor installation. If you're running original AC monitors on these units, this is the documentation you need.

What This Manual Covers

  • Setup and assembly — press wheel adjustments, gang arm brackets, parallel links, unit drive chain, and covering equipment installation for both 73 and 74 units
  • Seed metering and plate selection — seed hopper inspection, false ring setup, center bearing and cut-off tongue adjustment, and changing seed plates for corn, cotton, beet, and small seed crops
  • Plant population and spacing charts — factory reference tables for dialing in seed rate and row spacing across crop types
  • Depth control — depth band setup for 74 units, depth skid adjustment for 73 units, gauge wheel configuration, and weight transfer and down pressure spring settings
  • Herbicide and insecticide application — metering control setup, chemical rate calibration, metering gate slide settings, field operation, and hopper cleaning procedures
  • Planter monitor systems — full coverage of the AC-1 non-counting and AC-3 counting monitors, console display and wiring, battery connections, signal cable routing, sensor installation and servicing, and console tests for 4, 6, 8, and 12-row configurations
  • Field service and troubleshooting — diagnostic tips for both monitor models and photo-electric sensor servicing

Why This Manual Matters

  • Original factory seed plate charts — the correct plate numbers and population settings for each crop, not guesswork or aftermarket approximations
  • Monitor wiring and sensor diagrams — the AC-1 and AC-3 monitor systems are nearly impossible to troubleshoot without the original schematics, and generic wiring guides won't match the AC-specific harness routing
  • 73 vs. 74 specific procedures — depth skid setup for the 73 and depth band setup for the 74 are covered separately with the correct adjustment specs for each unit
  • Chemical application calibration — factory metering gate settings and application rate tables for herbicide and insecticide attachments, critical for accurate in-furrow treatment

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

ABSOLUTELY A MUST for Omegaverse Girls!!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Jillian West and her books!!! I’m so happy I already bought book two and now I have to buy the others for the Assurance Security series!! Not gonna lie Val kind of annoyed me at the beginning but she grew on me!! Her men are chef’s kisses!!! Holt annoys me some but I can let it slide. I already bought part two so I’m going to be reading that in between work phone calls!!!! DON’T TELL MY BOSS 😂😂😂😂

Baby bumps and bodyguards
Format: Kindle
Dark, emotional, and unexpectedly tender, Not Ready is an omegaverse romance that delivers found family feels, fierce protectiveness, and a very pregnant heroine who refuses to break. Vale’s on the run from a stalker, but lands in the arms of three private security alphas, cue the swoony tension, fake marriage twist, and slow-burn heat. It’s a little gritty, a little soft, and a whole lot addictive. If you love protective alphas, high stakes, and heroines with quiet strength, this one’s a must-read.

Strong Omegaverse Comfort and a Attention Grabbing Plot
Format: Kindle
Jillian West never misses when it comes to Omegaverse, and Not Ready is no exception. This story was the perfect blend of cozy comfort and emotional depth while still delivering a strong plot. Vale is such a powerful heroine, she is strong, capable, and determined but I love that she still allows her pack to love and take care of her. It’s that balance of independence and vulnerability that makes her so relatable. The relationship dynamics were amazing: Bishop is steadfast and completely head over heels, Mercy is skeptical but protective in his own way, and Holt is the hesitant one whose slow fall is so satisfying to watch unfold. The romance hits that sweet spot between insta-love and cautious build, keeping me hooked the entire way through. And that ending. Oh my god, the cliffhanger! I need the next book in this duet immediately.
