Philodendron scandens 'Micans Lime'

Easy, striking, and seriously photogenic 😌

Family: Araceae • Pot diameter: 12 cm • Height: 20 cm

Araceae Evergreen Light: bright, indirect Care: easy Trailing

Philodendron scandens 'Micans Lime' is the go-to choice when you want the velvety “micans” look—but with a brighter, more electric colour mood. The foliage reads soft and changes subtly with the light, while the stems trail beautifully and fill space without feeling heavy. Perfect on a shelf, in a hanging spot, or trained onto support for a cleaner tropical vibe with very little effort.

Light

🌤️ Bright
Indirect light for cleaner colour.

Watering

💧 Moderate
When the top layer dries.

Growth

➰ Trailing
Fills space beautifully.

Texture

✨ Velvety
Its signature trait.

What makes it special

  • 💚 Lime tones that brighten the foliage in a modern way.
  • ✨ A velvety texture that feels premium without being loud.
  • ➰ A trailing habit made for shelves and hanging displays.

Ideal use

  • 🪴 In a hanging pot for a foliage “waterfall”.
  • 🏠 On a shelf/bookcase as a fresh colour break from classic green.
  • 🧗 On support, if you prefer a more structured vertical look.

Where to place it

In bright, indirect light—close to a window but out of direct sun. That’s where it holds its colour best and grows denser, without stressing the foliage.

Best plant pairings

  • With aroids that enjoy similar light and watering for easy compatibility.
  • With deep-green foliage plants, so the lime tones look even brighter.
  • With other trailing plants in different textures, to build depth and flow.

Role in a composition: a bright trailing accent that adds movement and colour.

Variety origin click to read

Taxonomic background: Philodendron belongs to Araceae, and many of its popular houseplant forms are vining or trailing, using aerial roots to attach when given support.

Native range & habitat: As a group, philodendrons originate from tropical ecosystems of the Americas, typically growing in filtered light with higher humidity than most indoor environments.

Naming (etymology): “Philodendron” is tied to “love of trees,” reflecting how many species naturally grow on trunks and supports.

Selection & spread: ‘Micans Lime’ is grown for a brighter lime-toned look compared to the classic micans type, while keeping the velvety texture and trailing habit. In the trade, naming can vary (you may see related “lime/lemon” labels used), so we keep the description focused on the observable traits: velvet texture + lime colour + trailing growth.

Propagation & stability: Propagated from node cuttings (node cuttings). Density and colour improve in bright, indirect light with a steady watering rhythm.

1) Watering: Water when the top layer dries. Aim for evenly moist—not permanently soaked.
2) Pruning: Trim vine tips if you want a fuller look. New growth will emerge from the nodes.
3) Light: Bright, indirect light keeps the lime tones cleaner and more vibrant.

🤔 Did you know? In philodendrons, the node is the key point: it’s where new growth starts—and where a cutting “takes” when you propagate.
Why you’ll love it info
  • 💚 Lime tones that brighten a space without feeling loud.
  • ✨ A velvety texture that reads premium.
  • ➰ Trails beautifully and fills space without visual heaviness.
  • 🪴 Easy care that forgives small mistakes.
🧠 Greenleaf for nerds — scientific facts nobody asked for geek
  • 🧷 Nodes (nodes) are where leaves and new growth emerge—cuttings need a node to root successfully.
  • 🌿 Aerial roots (aerial roots) help the plant attach when trained onto support.
  • 🧪 Calcium oxalate crystals are a common defence in many Araceae, which is why ingestion is a problem.
  • 📌 Colour intensity: bright, indirect light helps maintain cleaner, more vibrant tones in new leaves.
Why does the lime look less intense sometimes? color

Most often it’s light-related. In lower light, tones look calmer. In bright, indirect light the colour reads cleaner and more vivid.

How do I make it fuller? full

Tip-prune the vines lightly. New branches will form from the nodes and the plant will fill out more evenly.

Hanging pot or support? hang

Both work. Hanging looks more relaxed and flowing, while support creates a cleaner, more structured vertical look.

Is it safe for pets? pets

No. Like most philodendrons, it’s harmful if ingested. Keep it away from children and pets.

Great for big dogs
Size: Medium, Number of Items: 1
Our pup is now 15 months old (nearly 110 lb and still growing). We got this ball when he was 3 or 4 months old. GOODS - - Our pup fetches with extreme drive, and the rope helps him quickly snatch the ball off the ground (versus a tennis ball, in which we are worried he will go head over heels at times) - Our pup also loves to play fetch in the water, and this ball floats great and again, the rope gives another point to bite onto - The yellow color is easy to see, even in grass - Our pup typically fetches the ball, and leaves the rope mostly out of his mouth. So, throwing the ball doesn't result in saliva-covered hands - It's pretty easy to throw the ball 50', and possible to throw it 100' - It doesn't roll/bounce, so if you are for example playing fetch on your front lawn and are concerned with a tennis ball rolling into the street, this one alleviates that issue - Our pup is spoiled and has several balls. This is absolutely his go to ball. We have woken up in the morning before to see him standing next to the bed with the ball in his mouth, asking us to get up and play. BADS - - Occasionally when he goes to fetch it, he will step on the rope as he tries to pull up on the ball. - We have gotten this ball stuck in trees multiple times. In fact, there is one stuck on the roof of our church from playing fetch on the lawn there. :-/ Not a fault of the ball, but if you start whipping it around like nunchucks, it might not go where you want. - The near max you can through this ball is 100'. And since it doesn't roll/bounce, throw distance is throttled. We often play fetch in a local baseball field, and have no issue wearing him out with this ball. However, if you are planning on throwing a ball the distance of half a football field, you might want to consider something else. SIZE - - We purchased both the medium and the large. Even though our pup is huge and can fit a soccer ball in his mouth, he still prefers the medium. It's easier for him to get in his mouth and breath while running back. The medium is the size of an orange, whereas the large is the size of a grapefruit. DURABILITY - - We have gone through about 4 of these balls, BUT this is because we lost 3 of them. We believe he dropped one out of the car window while we were driving, one is on the roof of our church, and I forget about the other one. On the first one we had, the stitching behind the black tape was down to a few threads after about 5 months. Given duration we use these balls (every day) and the joy he gets from them, I feel the durability is good for the price. - We do play tug with the ball at times, and no issues there Enjoy!

Good but better options out there.
Good ball, but is a cheaper version of the Foamster sold online. The rope is cheap and comes apart, and can be abrasive to a dogs mouth. The Foamster uses a higher quality ball and are more durable and use grippy biothane straps rather than cheap rope. They are also made to order in the USA with lots of fun colors. Worth the extra money if your dog likes these balls.

Fun toy for fetch
Size: Medium, Number of Items: 1
Daisy loves this toy. I found it from her dog trainer, and it makes rewarding her with a quick tug of war and fetch really easy. Also it’s shockingly durable. It looks like foam, but she has not destroyed this one.

Heavy chewer approved.
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 1)
My pomsky will destroy a toy in minutes. Ropes, and the "indestructible" nylon type stuffs are no match for my furry shark. This ball has stood up to him like David. He loves the crunch and it is so much more tolerable than a squeaker. These will be a staple in his toy box - Chuckit toys are really the most durable dog toys I have found in three years.
