Cleistocactus colademononis, better known as the Monkey Tail Cactus, is a real showstopper! Its long, trailing stems are covered in soft, white spines, making it look just like a monkey's tail – how cool is that?
Perfect for hanging baskets or high shelves, this cactus loves to show off its cascading stems. Plus, it’s not just a looker – it produces bright red flowers at the tips of its stems that add a burst of color to any room.
Native to: The Monkey Tail Cactus comes from the rocky cliffs and dry valleys of the Bolivian Andes. So, it’s used to lots of light and good drainage.
Water: Keep it simple with this cactus – water sparingly and let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Usually, every 2-3 weeks will do the trick. And remember, excellent drainage is a must to avoid root rot.
Light: This plant is a sun lover! It thrives in bright, indirect light and can handle some direct sunlight in the morning or late afternoon. Just avoid that harsh midday sun – it’s a bit too intense. A south or west-facing window is perfect.
Humidity: The Monkey Tail Cactus likes it dry, just like its native habitat. Keep indoor humidity levels between 30% and 50%. High humidity isn’t its thing and can actually harm it.
Temperature: This cactus is comfy in typical indoor temperatures ranging from 18°C to 24°C. It can tolerate slightly cooler temps but hates the cold, so keep it above 10°C. Consistency is key to keeping it happy and stress-free.
