Tillandsia harrisii

Tillandsia harrisii is a silver rosette air plant with softly textured leaves covered in fine trichomes. The pale surface gives the foliage a velvety look, while the open rosette shows the curved shape of each leaf.

This Guatemalan epiphyte belongs to the wet tropical side of the Tillandsia group. Its silver foliage still needs bright filtered light, regular wetting, and a full drying period after each watering.

Tillandsia harrisii rosette features

  • Plant type: Epiphytic bromeliad grown as an air plant.
  • Foliage: Silver-grey leaves with a dense, softly scaled surface.
  • Growth habit: Open rosette with gently curved leaves.
  • Origin: Native to Guatemala.
  • Flowering: Mature plants can produce coloured bracts with violet flowers.
  • Watering: Regular hydration must be followed by airflow through the rosette.

Leaf surface of Tillandsia harrisii

The leaves of Tillandsia harrisii are covered with fine surface scales that take up moisture and create the soft silver appearance. Because the leaves overlap in a rosette, water can collect near the centre if the plant is returned to a flat position while still wet.

Offsets may appear after flowering and can stay attached to form a fuller plant. Remove only fully dried leaves by hand or with clean scissors, taking care not to pull at the central growth.

Balanced care for Tillandsia harrisii

  • Water: Soak or rinse regularly, then drain the rosette before placing it back.
  • Drying: Let water leave the centre of the rosette within a few hours.
  • Airflow: Use an open holder or mount so air can reach the leaf bases.
  • Light: Give bright filtered light and avoid overheated direct sun through glass.
  • Water quality: Low-mineral water keeps the silver leaf surface cleaner.
  • Humidity: Moderate humidity works well when the plant is not kept wet and stagnant.
  • Feeding: Use a very weak air-plant fertiliser occasionally; avoid fertiliser buildup on the leaves.
  • Temperature: Keep in warm indoor conditions and away from cold wet glass.
  • Substrate: Soil, moss, and semi-hydro reservoirs are not suitable for this air plant.

Rosette problems on Tillandsia harrisii

  • Dry curling: Leaves can tighten or wrinkle when the plant is watered too lightly.
  • Rosette rot: A soft centre usually follows trapped water and poor airflow.
  • Brown bases: Damp, stagnant placement can damage the lower leaf sheaths.
  • Scorch: Pale leaves can mark in hot direct sun.
  • Pests: Check the inner rosette for mealybug or scale if growth slows or leaves mark unevenly.

Safety for Tillandsia harrisii

Tillandsia harrisii should stay out of reach of pets and children that may chew, pull, or swallow loose plant pieces.

Excellent . Bought these to install a 5000 watt inverter . Arrived a little late but these cables are exactly as described. I needed 10 ft but ended up using like 9 ft. These are extremely flexible and of very good quality . Highly recommended and will buy again

Poor quality and false advertising in size
Size: 4/0 AWG 10FT Red & Black
A complete fraud. I ordered 4/0 but got 4 gauge. The description & picture was correct, but someone doesn’t know the difference in 4 gauge and 4/0. AND the jacket insulation was cheap and translucent, not solid color and supple/flexible. Poor product quality and completely misleading.

I liked them. They really lock down on the speaker wire to make a firm connection. They seem well made and are easy to install. My system sounds great.
