Maranta Red: A Bold and Lively Prayer Plant

The Maranta Red, also known as the Red Vein Prayer Plant (Maranta leuconeura erythroneura), is a stunning, low-growing houseplant celebrated for its eye-catching foliage and unique behavior. Its lush green leaves are adorned with striking red veins and a lighter, feathery herringbone pattern, creating an almost hand-painted appearance. True to its "Prayer Plant" name, its leaves fold upward in the evening, resembling hands in prayer—a quiet, mesmerizing movement that makes it feel alive in your home.

Why the Maranta Red Stands Out:

  • Unmatched Visual Appeal: The deep red veins contrast beautifully with the rich green, making it a standout among houseplants. Perfect for brightening any room.
  • Interactive Nature: Its daily movement adds life and intrigue, especially for plant lovers who enjoy watching plants “perform.”
  • Pet-Friendly: Safe for cats and dogs, so you can enjoy its beauty without worry.

The Maranta Red thrives in indirect light and loves humidity, making it ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, or grouped with other plants. Place it in a decorative pot or let its foliage gently spill over a shelf for a vibrant pop of color.

Plant Details:

  • Mature Height: 10-12 inches
  • Mature Width: 12-18 inches
  • Sun Exposure: Bright, indirect light
  • Botanical Name: Maranta leuconeura erythroneura

Whether you’re drawn to its bold appearance, gentle movements, or easy care, the Maranta Red is a perfect addition to your indoor collection. It’s a plant that doesn’t just sit there—it brings personality, color, and a touch of wonder to your home.

Good book, this isn't my favorite (Wretched of the ...
Format: Kindle
Good book, this isn't my favorite (Wretched of the Earth continues to be) but it gives a good account of the effects of colonialism on people's psyche. Fanon masterfully demonstrates how violence is practiced on the minds and bodies of those on the receiving end of colonialism. He digs deep into how the ideology of whiteness as 'pure' and 'good' are, for one, deeply flawed, but more importantly, these false beliefs are incredibly damaging to humanity as a whole. Although it's a good book, I found some serious flaws with some of his arguments but I still think it was worth the read.

Black Nationalism
Format: Paperback
This is and was a great book. Even though he discussed the effects of racism in regards to his native land of Martinique we Mr. Fanon has to say still resounds in today's so-called PC world. I do wish he had lived long enough to see Barack Obama elected President of the United States. I would have loved to hear his take on that. The only aspect I found missing from this book is his opinion on Black American ex-patriots living in France. James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Josephine Baker.... Did these African-Americans living in Paris not realize the effect of colonolism on all Africans in the Diaspora?, or were they treated as "Honorary Whites" in France. I truly wish Frantz Fanon had explored that entire subject.

This was a graduate thesis!
Format: Paperback
Imagine how useful academia could be if this kind of writing was accepted at the doctoral level these days! Here is a concise analysis of the problem with plausible solutions. Not what seriously more than 99% of all academic writing in sociology, literature, the art, comparative literature, and anthropology hold as a gold standard today; today you must obfuscate your pointless observations with academic jargon, citation and reference to others who have made no real observations, and fighting racism by supporting a new way of talking in order to maintain the existing inequitable systems.

A Riveting Read!
Format: Kindle
Come along for the page-turning tale of young Hannah, a brave young woman who just wants to do good in a time of madness. I read this in one sitting! Highly recommended for anyone interested in historical fiction. This would also make a wonderful accompaniment for school-age curriculum in grade 5 or above.
