Roman Beauty Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis 'Roman Beauty')

Roman Beauty Rosemary is a compact, fragrant evergreen that brings year-round structure and fresh, culinary flavor to sunny gardens and patios. Its arching stems create a soft, spilling look that instantly makes containers and stone edges feel more finished. Once established, it handles heat and dry spells well in well-drained soil, making it a dependable choice for low-fuss planting areas. In spring, lavender-blue flowers add seasonal color while also supporting pollinators.

Distinctive Features

This rosemary forms a dense, mounding shrub with arching growth that can gently cascade over container rims and walls. Needle-like evergreen foliage is intensely aromatic and useful for cooking, while the plant maintains a tidy, compact presence compared to many larger rosemary forms. Lavender-blue flowers appear in spring, adding a clean burst of color against the deep green foliage. Mature size is typically about 2 to 3 feet tall and about 2 feet wide, with size influenced by pruning and growing conditions.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Full sun is best for strongest growth, best flavor, and the heaviest flowering.
  • Soil: Well-drained soil is essential, and sandy or gravelly soils are ideal.
  • Water: Water regularly during establishment, then water during dry spells once established.
  • USDA Zones: Zones 8 to 10.
  • Mature Size: About 2 to 3 feet tall and about 2 feet wide.
  • Deer: Often deer resistant due to aromatic foliage.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use in a large pot as a focal point where the evergreen form and fragrance can anchor a sunny entry or patio.
  • Containers: Plant in pots so the arching stems can spill naturally over the rim for a finished look.
  • Herb Gardens: Place near the kitchen for easy harvesting and dependable year-round structure in mild climates.
  • Dry, Sunny Beds: Use in well-drained planting areas where heat and lower water use are part of the plan.
  • Rock Walls and Edges: Tuck along walls or raised beds where the growth can drape and soften hard lines.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Pruning: Lightly prune after flowering or as needed to maintain shape, and avoid cutting back into old, leafless wood.
  • Watering: Let soil dry between waterings once established, and avoid consistently wet conditions.
  • Mulching: Keep mulch off the crown to improve airflow and reduce moisture-related issues.
  • Fertilizing: Feed sparingly, since overly rich soil can reduce aroma and encourage soft growth.
  • Winter Care: In cooler areas, grow in containers and move to a protected, bright location during hard cold.

Why Choose Roman Beauty Rosemary?

  • Compact Form: Stays smaller and more manageable than many rosemary types while still looking full.
  • Evergreen Structure: Provides year-round color and form in beds, borders, and containers.
  • Culinary Value: Aromatic foliage is easy to harvest for cooking and everyday use.
  • Drought Tolerance: Performs well with lower water needs once established in well-drained soil.
  • Soft, Arching Habit: Naturally spills and mounds, making containers and edges look more finished.

Roman Beauty Rosemary is an easy way to add evergreen structure, fragrance, and practical harvest value in one compact plant. Give it full sun and sharp drainage, then prune lightly to keep it dense and productive. Whether used in containers, herb gardens, or sunny beds, it delivers a clean, Mediterranean feel that holds up season after season.

So far so good
Color: Brown
I have had issues with other models/variations of the timex expedition in the past, so I was hesitant to get an even more expensive version of it, but I just really liked this watch so I gave it a shot. I was looking for a new “daily driver” watch as I have a bunch of nicer, more expensive watches that I didn’t want to wear to work at a hospital. I like the solar charging feature for sure as I change my own watch batteries and it can be a pain sometimes. It’s a nice weighty watch, which I like because it feels solid, not cheap. So far it seems to be keeping time well, which is an issue I’ve had with other expeditions in the past. I really like the look of this watch a lot. It’s a sharp looking watch without being too flashy or fancy so it can be worn with just about any attire. I will note that because of the solar feature, it needs to be charged well before setting the time. I placed it under a led light for about 24 hours before setting the time and using it and when I don’t wear it I place it near a window. So far I’m really liking it, but I haven’t had it long enough to really know about long-term reliability. I will update if any issues arise.

Timex Expedition Solar a no frills fine watch
Color: Brown/Blue
The watch came uncharged. I guess you're supposed to charge the watch by exposing it to sunlight. There was no sunlight and I wasn't about to wait for any. I placed it in front of one of my ultra-bright led flashlights for about 5 hours that night. It's been working fine ever since. I'll expose it to sunlight when I see some. It's a nice looking watch, no bells and whistles but it's been keeping excellent time. I swapped out the band for a NATO which I find more dependable. The price shouldn't put you in the poor house and if it's like all the other Timex watches I've owned, I'll be happy with it.

Great watch. Janky quartz. Bad strap.
Color: Brown
It’s got all the specs one could want in a field watch, but I can’t get over the janky quartz movement. The second hand overshoots and undershoots the second markers notably throughout its rotation. Also, the leather strap provided does not age well, it turns a dark brown and develops cracks in short order. Still, especially if nabbed on sale, the watch is well worth it and will probably outlive the wearer.
