Water Hyacinths are lovely, emerald-green aquatic plants with bulbous foliage and pretty lavender blooms, they one of the most beautiful and most popular floating water plants! A true floating plant with roots that hang down in the water helps purify and clean the water, also shading the water and helping with algae elimination. Shading the water helps to reduce algae growth and adds cover for fish. When Water Hyacinths take up nutrients from the water, they starve out the algae.
Reminder! All plants have different requirements! Water Hyacinths are tropical plants that require warm weather as well as warm water. Water Hyacinths do not tolerate nighttime temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. When you place Water Hyacinths on your order and choose Proper Planting Time, we will wait until the weather is warm enough in your area to ship your plants.
No planting is necessary, as Water Hyacinths simply 'float' on the surface of the water. They grow well in full sun to part shade and are great for use in a biofilter. When you buy water hyacinths, be sure never to release them in natural waterways, even in the north, as we have found seeds germinating the following spring.
