Autumn Joy Stonecrop (Sedum 'Autumn Joy')

Autumn Joy Stonecrop (Sedum 'Autumn Joy') is a classic, upright-growing perennial succulent cherished for its changing seasonal colors, drought resistance, and late-season blooms. This easy-care variety adds bold texture, structure, and an eye-catching focal point to borders, pollinator gardens, and xeriscapes.

Distinctive Features

'Autumn Joy' forms a sturdy, upright clump of thick, fleshy, blue-green leaves that remain attractive throughout the growing season. In late summer, large, flat-topped clusters of soft pink flowers emerge, gradually deepening to a rich rosy-red and finally maturing to coppery-bronze in fall. The dried flower heads persist into winter, adding seasonal interest. Growing 18 to 24 inches tall and spreading up to 24 inches, this variety is an excellent performer in mixed borders, cottage gardens, and wildlife-friendly plantings.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun Exposure: Full sun for best color and flowering.
  • Soil: Prefers well-drained, sandy, or rocky soil; tolerates poor soils.
  • Water: Drought-tolerant once established; requires minimal watering.
  • Humidity: Prefers dry to moderate humidity; avoid excessive moisture.
  • USDA Hardiness Zones: 3-9, making it highly adaptable.

Ideal Uses

  • Mixed Borders: Adds height, texture, and late-season color.
  • Pollinator Gardens: Attracts bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.
  • Xeriscapes: Thrives in low-water environments.
  • Container Plantings: Provides long-lasting blooms and architectural appeal.
  • Winter Interest: Dried flower heads persist, adding seasonal beauty.

Low Maintenance Care

Autumn Joy Stonecrop is a resilient, easy-care perennial that thrives with minimal attention.

  • Watering: Water sparingly; allow soil to dry between waterings.
  • Pruning: Leave flower heads for winter interest or cut back in late fall or early spring.
  • Fertilizing: Minimal fertilization required; prefers lean soils.
  • Pest and Disease Resistance: Highly resistant to pests, deer, and rabbits.
  • Winter Care: Stems may be left standing for structure and cut back in spring.

Why Choose Autumn Joy Stonecrop?

Autumn Joy Stonecrop offers seasonal color transitions, pollinator-friendly blooms, and low maintenance, making it an excellent choice for xeriscapes, borders, and fall gardens.

  • Long-Lasting Color: Flowers transition from pink to red to bronze.
  • Attracts Pollinators: Essential for bees and butterflies in late summer and fall.
  • Drought Tolerant: Thrives in dry soils and tough conditions.
  • Strong, Upright Growth: Provides structure and visual interest.

Fun, Steamy, and Just Enough Depth
Format: Kindle
I liked this book — it was cute, short, and exactly what I expected from a quick Omegaverse read. While it doesn’t dive too deeply into character development, there was enough personality and backstory sprinkled in to keep the relationships believable and engaging, especially given the length. What I really appreciated was that the focus stayed on the main characters and their connection. The heat, the banter, and the romance were front and center without getting bogged down in unnecessary drama. It made for an easy, enjoyable read that flowed smoothly from start to finish. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. There was a teaser blurb at the end, but it isn’t up on Amazon yet — hopefully it’ll be posted soon so I can add it to my wish list.

Good But
Format: Kindle
A little disjointed at times, at least to me. This was about Lila (omega woman) and Harrison, Wesley and River (alpha males). The main characters were likeable, as was Lila's friend, Wendy. Lila finally wised up and left the alpha she had been with for a couple of years because he was an a-hole, who treated and used her horribly. She knew some, if not all, of the guys from college if I remember correctly. The guys had been looking for an omega to bond with for some time. When Lila saw Harrison again, the other two guys were out on a date with another omega but Harrison refused to go because he didn't like her. He saw Lila again and knew she was the omega they had been searching for. However, it wasn't easy for them to convince Lila of that because of the way her ex-alpha treated her. The sex was hot. There was one inconsistency. I could almost swear that when Lila first saw Harrison again, she told her best friend, Wendy, that Harrison was the lead for his pack. Then later on when she's spending time with River, she thinks he is the pack's lead. Maybe I read something incorrectly. All in all, a good story.

Sweet read
Format: Kindle
A sweet steamy read of an omega who finds her worth and finds the guys that are willing to show her. The story had lovable characters with low angst and a HEA.

Short and sweet
Format: Kindle
Beautifully written, I was worried when it was labelled as a novella at the start, really used to those missing info and jumping forward to complete the story or not having complete character growth, not to worry! Author gave enough time to fall in love (and hate) with everyone, can't wait to read Wendy's story I feel like she will be the badass we all love!
