Japanese Maple, Mountain Maple, Momiji, Yamamomiji (Acer palmatum). This deciduous broad leaf is native to Japan, Korea, and China. Hardy in zones 5-9, in hotter climates - they can scorch easily in direct sunlight.
Care: Dappled shade is the best lighting for Japanese Maples, as their leaves can be scorched by direct sun. Drastic pruning in late spring/early summer can stimulate low buds to pop and create new branches.
